I will eat peanut M and M's and I will eat steak and drink beer. I will have dessert first. I will fish when I want I will love with my whole heart. If I want a greasy truck stop burger I will also eat that. When asked by party on the phone if I can hold I will say no. When a phone solicitor calls me at dinner time I will consent to talk to them if they give me their home number and allow me to call them back when they are eating dinner. I will not fear. I will not fear. I will enjoy every day as if it was my last. I will be a friend to all who desire it. To do anything other than what my heart asks me to do would be a waste of my spirit and the gift of life that I have been given. I will not wallow in despair. I will not feel sorry for myself. I will embrace this challenge for what it is. It is a chance to grow and learn. Todd

Todd: I think I will print your statement out. What very wise words. I wish we would all live by those words. I hope you don't mind me using your words. I is flattery to be copied. :) Thanks for posting.

I must say for a very long time I have lived by most of what you have said and I love my life as well. Peace be to you Todd.

Todd, I remember you mentioned you have a 13 year-old.  That is such a sensitive age (13-15 years).  You also have five Granddaughters.  I hope you will include them in your plans to enjoy life to the fullest!  Do whatever silliness you wish.  Lay down on the grass and look at the clouds and the huge trees.  Follow a butterfly.  Throw a Frisby.  Play with the Fisher Price Doll House.  Have a tea party.  Play dress-up.  Go see Winnie the Poo at the show.  Take your 13 year-old to a ball game.  Run with the dog, if you have one.  Have a picnic at the park.  Play those X-Box games.  Take your teen to a Rock (Country) concert.

All your ideas are great; however, I am approaching this from a different angle.  Our Grandbabes are from 2 - 9 years old.  They bring joy to my husband life.  He is in pain a good portion of the time, but the laughter they bring cheers him so much.  I hope you understand where I am coming from.

Take care and continued blessings,

Aimzee

I salute your excellent post! My paraphrase: Tis better to live one day as a lion, than one hundred years as a sheep. (old Italian proverb).

Todd,

Taking care to not post anything that will make me less "anonymous", I have to say that I have taken many positions in my day-to-day work (have to keep that job for the insurance, even more so now that HT is in the mill for September) that match your post.

I don't repeat myself anymore - those who fail to listen the first time miss an opportunity to learn. I used to teach, and try, try, again to get my point across in multiple ways when the first one failed. Now, there is one shot. I don't waste my time on repeat attempts anymore.

Phone calls end when I have said what I intend to say. Hanging up has become easier.

My day at the office is done when the radiation fatigue sets in.

There are a lot of other "new normal" rules in my house, but since I am the only inhabitant, no one complains.

My neighbors appreciate me more, because walking their dogs is more productive than a lot of my "business day", and gives me more pleasure.

I will not worry about being the old man on the mountain bike trail. I will skateboard without all the sissy knee pads and other such crap. I will pass my hard earned knowledge on to those who will truly listen and make use of it. I will not waste time on people who waste my time. I will enjoy the day for all that it is worth, thank full that I still can. I will calmly speak about my experience with prostate cancer, hoping that those who hear my words get a good going over at their doctors.
