I am curious if anyone else is experiencing a constant weight loss during their journey. I had RPP on 9/8/2010 weight at that time was 162-165, which was about normal for me.  PSA on January 20, 2011was <.03, weight was around 145. Which I attributed to me new diet of no fats, dairy products, red meat, etc. Only whole grain bread, vegetables, fish, oatmeal, soy products, fruits, etc. In addition I was walking 1.5 miles a day. Prior to surgery I made no concentrated effort to walk or exercise. Only exercise I got was yard, work, household chores, that sort of thing.

Started ART in February 2011. Weight continued downward.  It seemed to reach a new low, stay there for awhile, then fall a little further.  For example it would go to 142, stay there for a week or two, then fall to 140. Stay at 140 for a week or two then fall to 138. Well this morning I reached a new low of 136.5. PSA if .04 on May 16th. Starting to get a little worried.  Talked with GP and he did what all doctors do, took a blood test.  The test all within acceptable range. Some elevated a little such as low B-12.  He attributes weight loss to diet. I can see a certain amount, but this is overdoing it. I think I am keeping Kohl’s mens wear in business.

 Anyone else has had this problem?

How tall are you and or was the old 162-165 pounds too much for your height?

Have you considered changing your diet? Steak and ice cream for a week should make a dent tongue

I initially lost about 25 lbs due to change in diet, but have put about half of that back on while on HT. Now that I am off HT I am trying to get back down to 170 lbs. This is a good weight for me at 6' 1".

I did think about the steak and ice cream. Kind of shuddered after all I had read.
BB - 25 lbs. at your height is not to bad. 30 lbs at my height is my concern. My height is 5'8". I was a little chunky, but not to bad. Now my pants will not stay up.

I have contacted dietician at Regional Cancer Center, where I had ART, she will not even give me the courtesy of a return call. Maybe they have milked the insurance as muchas they can. Oh yes, I am getting a little paranoid/sarcastic.

Maybe I should just go with it.

Mr Bill - when I google this...I found several sites that showed the same numbers for your height:

5' 8"
LOW = 137lbs  (small frame)
Target = 154lbs  (medium frame)
High = 171lbs  (large frame)
http://www.disabled-world.com/artman/publish/height_weight.shtml

The walking and stuff you're doing burned off all the old fat and turned it into muscle etc.... Do you currently feel more fit and healthy then you've felt in a long time?

Does your GP think you look healthy?

Steve,

Thank you for that information.  Yes, I do feel a little more fit that I did before surgery. My wife tells me I look better. But I ain't got no butt!!!!!!!     We just came back from Appleby's and I could only bring myself to order chicken salad with walnuts, cranberry.  Based on my previous occupation, 137 is to light.   I see friends out on the street, and can see that "o'migosh, is that Bill?"

GP thinks I am healthy ( I guess.)  Of course he might see roadkill as an opportunity.

I have appointment with him on 14th maybe he will come up with something new.

Thanks,

Mr Bill

Mr Bill, I am the same height and age as you and my weight is holding at just under 130. And on a similar diet ~ I lost only 4 lb, having had much less to start with. I feel as healthy as I have ever been.

I think your new diet has fewer calories so the weight is just naturally coming off. You just need to eat a few more calories. For me, these come from nuts and fruits (don't forget raisins or dates), fruit juice, red wine, honey sandwich, potatoes, dark chocolate, vegan cake or cookies. Not all at one sitting! There is also non dairy icecream (soy based) which I find very bland, but a lot better than no icecream at all. :-)

Mr. Bill--It's most likely the diet and increased activity. I cranked up the exercise and ate better after surgery, but it didn't affect my weight much. Your weight seems normal for your height. If it keeps steady for a couple of months, it's time to take your pants in for alterations.

Piano,

I try and stay away from honey and carbs (potatos) as they tend to turn to sugar. However, the vegan cake and cookies sound good. Do you happen to know what brand they are?

I guess I do not feel comfortable below 145.  I just feel there is something else wrong. Maybe colitis or IBS.   All I know for sure is I am tired of reading National Geographic in the doctor's office. I think I have them memorzed.

Interesting. I was about 200lbs before surgery and lost 25 pounds during/after surgery. I gained it all back but was told by the doctor I was pre-diabetic. I changed my diet and have lost all of the weight and am down to 180lbs (height 6 2"). I worry it is cancer related but I believe I was eating about 500 calories in ice cream every night. There is no fun in my diet anymore!

Mine are home-made with some substitutions in otherwise normal recipes. Substitute soy milk for dairy, olive oil spread for butter, and egg substitute for eggs. The last is powder, I haven't asked what is in it ~ hope it's not powdered egg or dairy!
