I'm new here and would like to thank everyone for sharing their stories and information for us that come behind you.
Need a little help if y'all could, I'm 66 and scheduled for a TRUS at the end of the month at the V.A. Now I won't get to talk to the urologist till the day of the procedure so I can't ask him any questions ahead of time, I had a very short time his with the nurse who did the digital exam as my psa was a 12.
I have read the forum for the last couple of days and the procedure discomfort level is all over the map. The told me they would take from 16 to 23 samples, seems like a lot compared to what I have read. I'm wondering if when taking the samples does the instrument stay in the rectum the whole time and hold all the sample in itself???
I'm going to call and try to see if they use and numbing cream, shot or whatever. I canceled the one two years ago when the psa was around 4 or 5. I doubt I would have any surgery if needed but would still like to know how much time I may have if positive.
Thanks for any help.
