Just realized, that today was the 3rd year anniversery of my prostate cancer diagnosis. I was laid off from my job on July 25, 2008, and exactly a month later, after my 3rd biopsy, got my PC dx on August 25, 2008.
For you that are new here, what a twisted journey I have had. Started with open surgery, had some complications and a lot of long term stricture problems. Spent a total of 1 1/2 years on 21 different catheters, and had 6 other operations to deal with the bladder neck stricture issues. My surgery failed within 9 months and had BCR.
Went for Salvage Radiation, 39 treatments, and it went terribly wrong, and in the process, it destroyed my bladder and bladder neck, forcing me to have Urostomy Surgery, and now will pee for life with a stoma and a device. During the year prior to this surgery, spent 51 continuous weeks with a suprapubic catheter.
After all that, the radiation has failed to stop the cancer, and now I have BCR for the 2nd time. As the results of all of the above, it left me perm. disabled, with both chronic fatigue and chronic pain.
My next step is still up in the air, as I am now working with a higher level oncologist familiar with advanced prostate cancer.
One never knows how a PC journey will go. I am still kicking after 3 years, but its not been an easy passage.
