I'm so glad i've discovered this community. I appreciate all of the past posts and have learned volumes from lurking on many of the threads.

I am scheduling a consultative visit to Shands to speak with Dr. Li-Ming Su about treatment options for my PC.   I'd appreciate any feedback from anyone who has has robotic surgery at this facility or by this doc. Not planning to do anthing without very carefully examining all of my options.  I'd much rather be visiting Gainesville to see a Gator game even though i'm a Nittany lions fan. Glad college football is starting tonight maybe i can forget about this crap growing in my prostrate.

Rowlinrock,

Welcome to the cub no man wants to join on his own,  I assume you must live close to UF Gainesville if you are considering RALP there.  I did a lot of research before my RALP and my first choice for treatment was proton beam therapy (PBT) and the closest facility for proton beam was UF Gainesville 300 miles from my home in AL and BCBS of AL would not pay for the PBT. IMO your small tumor and G6 makes you a perfect candidate for PBT   If it were me take the time at UF to get a consult with the PBT guys, My URO's brother had it for his PC 5 years ago at Loma Linda Calif where PBT was first developed. His brother has no side effects and has been cancer free for the last 5 years.

Here is the link to UF's proton beam web siite:

Good luck my PC brother

Just a slight correction...the UF Shands proton facility is located at Shands Jacksonville, not Shands Gainesville.

Everything continues to function normally as of 12/8/10. PSA: 6 mo 1.4, 1 yr. 1.0, 2 yr. .8. My docs are "delighted"! My journey:

Jim

Thanks for the correction about the UF PBT center location. Still not too far away and IMO Rowlinrock should consult with them. At his young age and G6 small tumor he is an ideal candidate for this treatment that could give him a much better Quality of life with fewer side effects.  The only unsolved questions about PBT is the very long term cure and effects as this technology has only been used on PC for a few years. If my insurance covered PBT and I had lived in Florida close to UF Jacksonville, I would have more actively pursued PBT for my PC.  Here in Alabama RALP is done on about 75% of PC patients and we do not have what I consider any world class treatment centers for radiation or seeds treatment for PC. This pretty much left me with only one option.

Alabama has world class treatment for diabetes (we are the 49th most obese state) and the U of Al Birmingham medical center pioneered liver transplants and liver cancer treatment but we are not a leader for PC.
