You can fire the doc and find another, uro-docs make a fortune off of LHRH drugs like Lupron, Zoladex, Trelstar, Eligard and such. Sure it helps keep PCa and psa levels down but also has plenty of fun side effects, usually not fully disclosed too. The fact that he acted this way, calious and only thinking of his profits....stinks. The doc can make anywhere from $1000-2000+ perhaps on one shot, so 4 a year and he loves seeing you come in the door. Ask him about
possible bone loss and memory loss caused by this drug useage, oh he might sugar coat that as NBD (no big deal). Ask him how much profit does he make on these shots, that ought to be a fun question! Some people are being billed like $3500 for a 3-4 month shot or more in some cases, I can direct you to a weblink showing what costs are via Canada for us patients with an Rx, amazing how low you can buy anything, and this is retail, not wholesale or quantity discounted.
Did you know that casodex especially in your case could work just a well (same for other drugs usually not mentioned, intentionally) and less side effects overall and the uro-doc would make no money off of you???? Well others have done exactly that with casodex and its equals and some had surgery sometime thereafter or other treatments. The HT therapy can make the gland shrink and kind of make it I hear like a stickiness to it, so surgery can become harder to do, but still can be done. Although many surgeons don't like to work harder to get-r-done (Larry the cable guy inspired that comment-LOL).
I did 2 yrs. of ADT3: Lupron+casodex+proscar, then in 2004 fired the genius uro-doc and went to DES 1mg drug as per Journal of Urology Nov. 2003 article about
it (no profits, no patents and almost free in price), guess what??? Lowered my psa and stabilized it superbly, like no side effects, so well I went off it for 1 yr. and no drugs. It is still working almost 8 yrs. later now, and no bone loss or memory afflication increases (it works much differently). I am sure your uro-doc will tell you all about
it (LOL). Costs me $130 per year for this drug, including shipping vs. ADT3 which used to cost $13,000 a year and this outperforms it and I have little to no side efffects. Oh another example of uro-doc syndrome, I was started on Zoladex $1300 per shot billed in 2002, he switched me to Lupron a few shots later and now $2100 per shot billed thereafter. I know I was not supposed to see the billing info at his counter, but the gal had it out there in plain view and I loved knowing the reasonings for the switch= PROFITS. Feel the love.
Your stats are very low, you could have even postphoned the HT therapy because I have seen others with similar or worse stats and they never got drug therapies. This guy seems very trigger happy on the LHRH drug (Trelstar) and now you hopefully understand his enthusiasm. In your stats it will work generally super and you should not need this for any long term at this juncture, always seek better opinions on your life, we are not shopping for cars and houses this is more important than that and look how much time we spend shopping around on those! Best to you. I know the uro-docs and some others whom read all these threads are loving me for pointing out the profit incentives, kind of like 'full disclosure' the way patients would like to know.
