Thanks for the clarification. I thought you were mocking Snuffy Myers by calling him Snuffy Smith.
I hope you get your scan soon and hope that it confirms no mets. You have been in so much pain and of course the fear is that the pain is due to mets. Hopefully, that is not the case.
Didn't Sonny have a met that was irradiated and cleared up? It is hard to keep track of folks. Assuming that's the case. might he still be considered to have no mets in terms of an HT decision? Sonny, if you are reading this, please chime in.
You said that doctors do not support Myers. I don't know. Really, if you look ONLY at those medical oncologists that specialize solely in prostate cancer, you might be surprised. Myers is a strong believer in quick HT, I think triple blockade. Ditto for Scholz, another expert. I suspect his partner, Dr. Lam will agree -- I'll know more when I consult with him on the 27th and I'll certainly report back to you. But also ditto for Liebowitz, another heavy. In fact, some of these guys also support quicker use of chemo, maybe before or in addition to HT. I know Scholz even mentioned chemo but seemed to drop that idea when we talked (it's hard to remember every detail). Then we have Hussain, another expert in that league, who is much more reluctant to start HT so early. I'm not sure what she would say with my current situation (I saw her before my last PSA, which confirmed a 3+ month doubling time) ir with yours and Sonny's.
David, another things we can agree on -- there is no clear definitive answer, yet. Otherwise, we wouldn't be having these discussions. There are pros and cons to all of these tx. decisions.
In terms of my own decision, if my next PSA is not a pleasant surprise and Dr. Lam says I should absolutely be doing HT, then I'll have to bite the bullet and do it.
So, if anyone is betting on what will happen, the odds appear to be about 8:1 in favor that I will be starting HT in 2011!
