I just ran across a site which sells TriMix in a gell form with great results. I'm wondering if anyone here has used it. I'm only three weeks post da Vinci, but looking ahead to possibilies.

It has been mentioned, but I don't recall when or the details -
Is your uro on board with that? There seems to be a wide diversity in what different uros accept as valid, and when to start. Since you'll need a prescription and perhaps a justification for your insurance company, you'll want to get the ducks in a row. It took some doing to get my insurance to even consider trimix.

Thanks for the quick response. I haven't discussed this with my uro yet, since I'm only about 3 weeks post op. I've already had a small amount of response @ 2 weeks with just stimulation, nothing to write home about, but definitely some response. And a little more is noted with use of Viagra and stimulation, again, nothing too exciting, but @ 19 days now...not complaining. I'll be getting a VED this week. From what I've read, early aggressive therapy can be beneficial. Regarding the TriMix Gel, I'm just looking ahead to possibilies, and noooo injections for Hopefully with a little response this soon, maybe I won't need it, guess we'll just have to see. My uro seems pretty open, so I don't think a scrip, if needed, would be a problem.

I would discuss the ED treatments with your uro, and hit him up for samples of all the pills (Levitra, Viagra, Cialis, Staxyn) so that you can try before you buy.
Assuming you are in the US, any legitimate pharmacy will require a prescription for Trimix in any form. Be careful about the internet, as not all are trustworthy. We have experiences here from great to abysmal with mail orders. We don't discuss off-shore, as the shipment to the US is not legal in most cases.
It is great to hear that you are already having some signs of life. At just under three years out, a shot of Trimix is the only thing that stirs the poor critter for me.

It is great to hear about signs of life at just three weeks too. Make sure your uro is on board with the therapies you are mentioning. You should get a copy of John Mulhall's book "Saving your sex life". My uro wasn't quite as aggressive as Mulhall but he is well within reason.

My uro is very aggressive. He gave me samples of all three oral meds, with an Rx for each @ week one post-op/cath removal visit. He also gave me an Rx for a VED and wanted me to start using it @ around 2 weeks for rehab purposes. I'll start with the VED this upcoming week.
I have noticed all sensations are very much intact, feels as it did pre-op. I don't think there will be any problem reaching orgasm. I'm curious to check that out, but assuming I should wait until about 4 weeks out to allow healing. Hopefully I'll get improving results with the ED in the near future. If not, I know to expect a long rehab course. Thanks for the suggestions guys.

Welcome to Healing Well – glad you found us – but sorry you have reason to be here. Congrats on getting any response at 3 weeks, that’s encouraging!

I’ve never used the gel. I’m on Trimix injections (doing injections is really not a big deal). I’ve heard that the gel is only effective for about 40% of men, whereas Trimix injections are effective for over 90%. I'll pass along what my uro said when I asked about the gel this month - he said it was not an effective means of getting the medicine where it needs to be; that it’s not worth fooling with.

By the way Dr. Mulhall says that vacuum pumps do not bring very much fresh blood into the penis so the oxygen content is low, therefore pumps do not do a very good job of rehabilitation. They may help provide usable erections, but they are not very good for erection tissue rehab. His opinion is it’s ok to use a pump in conjunction with pills and/or injections; just not as the only method of treatment.
Hope your recovery is going well.

My URP told me about the same thing as Tigerfan's about Trimix gel. He said it works about as good as MUSE which didn't work at all for me and burned like a hot poker up the pecker. Both MUSE and Trimix gel were not developed for post RP ED problems which accounts for their low incidence of success. My URO also would not give me a prescription for a VED as he believes like DR Mulhall, they do nothing to promote penile blood flow therapy with freshly oxygenated blood.   nono   have used injections since last July 6 weeks after my RALP.

A lot of comment about "fresh blood flow" and VED's..........I may be wrong but my memory of physiology is that the unit fills up...that pressure closes the escape/drain valves and there you go.......until you are done............there is no constant blood flow in and out....while hard.

Ask three men about a VED and get three opinions.
My Uro's stance:
- the value of the pump for rehab is limited, but is more than doing nothing.
- the value of the pump for sex is really limited for single guys. A shot or implant is better.
- you pump up, hold for a few seconds, then release, and repeat several times. This is a sort of circulation, and it is as fresh blood as you're going to get if you don't do anything else.
- if insurance pays, you didn't.
So I have one and use it now and then.

Yep, I'm of the belief that using the pump daily for rehab with the pills is probably a decent rehab plan. At least using the pump on a regular basis causes engorgement, which in turn should help to prevent atrophy during the nerve healing phase.
