A while ago i posted that the day after my prostatectomy when the surgeon was visiting me i'm sure he said they had left a very small part of the prostate behind during surgery.I thought nothing of this as i knew very little about
prostate surgery that was until i mentioned it at my support group. To my surprise most said i must have heard wrong as they have never heard of this,i also posted at HW and received the same response it has been on my mind now for the last 2 years since my surgery.
So yesterday i had my annual visit with my surgeon and i was determined to remember to ask he said he did leave a very small portion of the prostate behind that they considered cancer free as this helps with incontinence and ED problems. The decision was made by three senior surgeons that was present during the surgery he said it was common practice if possible to do this as the patient has a better outcome.
Has it helped me who knows my 2 year PSA is 0.03 to 0.04 no incontinence at all after the first 6 weeks & ED no response even with Viagra until about the 20 month mark when without warning started having very good erections and continue to do so.
So at least i now know i was not imagining what i heard i did hear right they do at times leave part of the prostate behind if possible.
