BDK, fogot to ask....where are you located?
I am in Central North Carolina. I am willing to go anywhere I need to in order to get the best treatment.
I have seen four doctors at Duke, two surgeons, one radiation oncologist, and one medical oncologist. The surgeons and medical oncologist are recommending surgery for me. The radiation oncologist is fine with surgery, but says that all available treatments have the same survival outcomes and so it is up to me to choose.
They do not currently do LDR or HDR Brachytherapy at Duke.
I have been asking some clinics if they do HDR. I asked Dattoli Cancer Center (Sarasota FL) if they did. They said "no" and offered the reason that they think that HDR does too much damage to adjacent tissues. I asked for the evidence for this, and they sent me a paper on secondary tumors caused by IMRT. I have written them back for clarification, but have not heard back yet. If anyone knows about
secondary tissue damage with HDR I would be interested to hear about
JNF says that Demanes requires and overnight, but his website currently says that they do two treatments about
a week apart. An overnight does not currently seem to be necessary. I have not spoken to them yet, but hope to do so soon.
