Short version of long story: I've been on Lupron/Casodex for a year and after a PSA rise of less than 1 point, my oncologist took me off Casodex and over six weeks I shot up to 3.8. So now he's putting BACK on casodex to see if it will fall for a few months before moving me on to Zytgia or Xtandi.
Now after one year he's doing bone scan and CAT scan although the baseline was from my time at diagnosis when I had large tumors all over my skeleton. I'm not sure if these new scans can be anything other than a new baseline.
Further, he's finally doing a CTC test in a few weeks. I read somewhere that high CTC count means less survival time.
Six months ago I was the poster boy for remission, having fallen from over 5,000 PSA points to less than 1. Also massive shrinkage of my tumors.
But now I'm facing a recurrence with a fuzzy and uncertain future ahead of me. I had fallen in a psychological acceptance of a few years on front line hormonal therapy. Now it looks like these new tests will determine whether I have 5-10 years ahead of me or only 1-2.
I know this is partly irrational, but I'm sure you guys can all understand.
I'm in transition...in-between therapies, my first time. I need some encouragement.
