From my limited personal experience, the PSA test was something that at 53 years old,was "just a routine test", for me, but I should have paid more attention to it. I ignored my that I had a high reading of 4.1. Immediately after that test, I lost my job, lost my Insurance(heard that a Biopsy would be very costly out of pockets and was a little scared to even conder it(For no valid reason) I did not go back ot the Doctor until 3 1/2 years later. By that time, my PSA was at 71.5 and I was diagnosed with advanced PC, mets spread to several bones.
No one can ever convince me that PSA tests are not needed until certain conditions, age, etc. So far,I have not been overdiagnosed or overtreated. Due to my own fault, ignorance and stupidity, I feel I was undertreated, I should have had the biopsy and sought treatment 3 1/2 yrs ago. Hindsight is 20/20, water under the bridge, etc. I waited too long and now am in for a fight. But due to my strong faith, I know that the fight has already been won. I know my prognosis, but like others have stated, we refuse to be just another statistic. I will still fight more, learn more, live more, and make each day count. With promise for the future, new treatments on the horizon, keeping other encouraged and "Keeping the Faith".
