Does anyone have experience with genetic testing for the HOXB13 gene, specifically regarding the G84E mutation? This mutation is apparently associated with a pronounced increase in the rate of prostate cancer within families. There is an article on this subject published in the New England Journal of Medicine, January 12, 2012 issue. My father participated in the Johns Hopkins study that was the basis for this article; but he's not passed on, and JH is not forthcoming with info as to whether he had this mutation or not. I'd like to know if this mutation runs in my family. There certainly is a lot of PC in my family.
I found a company that offers various types of genetic testing, including for this HOXB12 gene mutation. The company is NeoGenomics Laboratories. Their headquarters are in Florida, but they have a couple other locations as well. I can't find the cost of this test on their website. I've sent them an inquiry, and I'm awaiting their response.
Is this a legitimate and reputable company? Does anyone know of any other companies that offer this specific type of gene testing?
