I too was approved for SS Disability. Took a long fight, but was worth it in the end, finally had to get a lawyer to get it settled for me, and she did great. I was approved in July of 2011, but due to my filing, they had to back-pay me all the way back to August of 2008. So they had to pay me back for nearly 3 years worth at one time. You normally have to wait a year to get on the Medicare, but in my case, that wait was fulfilled by the amount of time it took to approve my case. So for me, Medicare started the first of the next month after my approval.
My money hits the same day every month right into my account. I have added some of the AARP plans to supplement the Medicare, to take care of meds and the "gap" that you hear people talk about
In my case, we stopped my insurance with my wife's plan asap (BCBS of SC), because it was going to cost her an extra 800 a month to keep just me on her policy, and we simply couldn't afford it.
I have been very happy on Medicare only. I go to whatever doctors I want, have whatever tests I need, and never have been billed any extra money, nor do I ever even have to make co-pays. I realize its not that way with everyone. I have seen some pretty high level specialists, all of them qccepted Medicare.
It is fair to say, there are doctors and practices that will refuse it, but you will know that up front.
If you need any other help or have more questions, feel free to e-mail me, would love to talk to you.
