It just occurred to me that yesterday was the third year anniversary of my prostatectomy. So far so good. After much consternation, my positive margins and I still are hanging in there with undetectable PSA scores.

It's good news for guys with positive margins. Don't think you're necessarily sentenced to poor health just because you have positive margins. You never know about these things.

As Sonny says, every day is a bonus!

Lord, I hope so, too.

All we can do is hope Dr. Walsh is correct in that ralp is like lightning hitting a tree--a ring of grass around the tree is often also whacked. So I guess the question is whether any weeds in that ring survive to later spread and cause trouble. If they were Gleason <= 6 weeds, everything will very likely be ok long term.

Good for you. May you always have good reports like those you have received so far.

Thanks for the good wishes. We'll see if my luck holds out until the five-year mark. That seems to be the magic milestone.

Robert, my doc's attitude regarding the margins was pretty close to Walsh's, and he seemed pretty unconcerned. Time will tell. Meanwhile, I guess it doesn't cost anything to be optimistic.

Thanks, fellas.

I'm looking forward to many more years here on this amazing forum, and many more GFMPH events with some of the coolest people ever.

Really like the way you think brother. We never know what lies beyond today and that is why we must live each one to its fullest.

Glad things are going well for you. Hope you can make it down here in March.

Congrats on your anniversary and your continuing membership in the Zero Club. I have 2 positive margins also and hope to follow in your footsteps. Like to meet you at the Florida GFMPH, I will be a newbie there but I can't miss the fun I am only a few hours drive away.

Jazzman,

Congrats buddy, keep playing that guitar, it's got be helping too, and we always like for Cajun to have "Music to his ears", as he does know a thing or two about music.

May you have many more years to celebrate this anniversary.

Wow, thanks for all the encouragement, guys. It's what makes this place so cool.

We've definitely got to keep Cajun Jeff's ears busy, Cowboy. He's a good man, and he's got a lotta soul! I played some Basie charts with the big band tonight, BTW. I think you're right about it helping. Ya gotta do what you love!

Thanks for all the good vibes.

Hi Jazzman (Jonathan),

Congratulations! It is great to hear that a fellow G7 (3+4) with positive margins (PT2+) has undetectable PSA (< 0.03) since surgery in November 2010. Happy 3-year anniversary!

I also had a positive margin (3mm at the Bladder Neck with G 6 at the margin) from my surgery about 10 weeks ago, and although my surgeon is reasonably optimistic about it, I am consulting other doctors (RO's and MO's) to see if I should "wait and see" as my surgeon suggested or go for ART in a couple of months.

So, I was wondering if you could share the dimensions of your margins, their locations, and the margin Gleason scores.

All the best,

Joe.

Thanks again everyone for the encouragement and kind words.

Joe, to answer your question, here's what my surgical pathology report said about the margins:

Apical margin involvement: Negative for neoplasm, although the neoplasm is close to the margin in the left apex. See other margins.

Margin: Positive for carcinoma in multiple foci. 2 mm of the
circumference is positive for carcinoma on the right side at 6 mm. Less
than 1 mm of the circumference is positive for carcinoma on the right side at 9 mm and 15 mm.

Again, my doc was pretty unconcerned about it. I pointedly asked him whether I needed to undergo adjunctive radiation and he said no. Maybe I should have pursued a second opinion, but I was happy to hear that everything was good. I don't know if that was the right call or not, but so far so good.

Best to you,

Jonathan
