When I was getting Lupron from my urologist, Medicare was billed $3,960 for the 6-month injection. Medicare and my supplement reduced that to $2,200. But when I switched to an oncologist and was told they only do three-month Lupron, I was astounded when my statement showed that Medicare was billed over $18,000 --and approved the entire amount! I have since had two other three-month Lupron injections, with the same situation: Medicare was billed $18k-plus and approved every penny. So, $4,500 or so net yearly to urologist for two 6-month Lupron injections, and $75,000 per year to oncologist for four 3-month Lupron injections. Makes perfect sense to me.
Add $10k per month billed to Medicare Part D for Zytiga (my copay $526), and we're talking $200k per year for just one PCa patient.
