You approached your situation thoughtfully; I would have probably done exactly what you did, if I found myself in your circumstances and at the same young age.
I have one problem with your conflation of risk with fear. I did not intend to imply that men who choose to treat are unduly fearful.
Finally, I don't believe that discussing the risks involved with the various means of dealing with prostate cancer, whether it is RP, RT, HT, or AS, is a matter of "defining life for others". People come to this web site in order to get advice as to how to deal with their devastating diagnosis of cancer. We have an obligation to share our experiences with them so that they can make the decision that is best for their circumstances. That being said, I also feel that we need to respect the choices men have already made to deal with their cancer. I certainly don't mean to criticize anybody who chooses differently than me.
