Thanks everyone for the kind and supportive words and thoughts.

142, thanks, according to his girlfriend apparently it did help a lot for us to talk. Most of the family just stayed away, just not having any ability to relate to him in any supportive way. Somehow hearing, "You have cancer" seems to put us on a different playing field. There's a commonality there that seems to reach deep inside. There's just something about the psychology of it, I guess.

Redwing,

Our thoughts and prayers are with your family. Your understanding and willingness to be a shoulder to lean on and an ear to listen were a blessing. God Bless.

So sorry to hear your sad news. I am new here but lost my dear wife to cancer 12 years ago. Such a slow, painfull and wasting disease. But he is suffering no longer and you can take some solice in that.

Yes, canser does suck!! and it beggers belife that with all the medical knowledge we have in the world today we are not much closer to finding a cure for the most aggresive forms of the disease. Our govenments would rather pour billions into fighting wars in far off countries when that money would be better placed in researching things such as cancer that takes the lives of thousands of us every year. Over here "Cancer Research" relies on donations from the public for its work in this field. That should change.

From this side of the pond, my thoughts are with you and your family at this time.

Stay strong.
