Yesterday while watching a ball game, there was a commercial encouraging men to join in on the lawsuit that is saying that the ED drugs have shown to have a strong link to Melanoma.

topclassactions.com/lawsuit-settlements/lawsuit-news/44030-viagra-cialis-levitra-ed-drugs-may-cause-skin-cancer/

"According to the JAMA study mentioned above, men who use Viagra for erectile dysfunction are 84 percent more likely to develop melanoma skin cancer than men who do not use erectile enhancing drugs."

If this has been discussed here before, I apologize, I must have missed it.

But for crying out loud, can any of us dealing with Pca and its side effects ever catch a break.

LOL!
It never ends, as long as there is a buck to be made.

Also: Hi, Sonny!

This is actually funny. The section I've pasted below, is where they lost all credibility, and where I stopped reading.

Are you kidding? " based on this discovery, scientists SPECULATE..." What scientist actually speculates and how is speculation going to hold up in court? Joke"

And the first sentence looks like an attempt by lawyers... to protect themselves against OTHER lawyers.
This stuff makes my blood boil, and is as big a part of the skyrocketing cost of healthcare, as unnecessary tests.

Rant over.

"While this JAMA study does not prove a cause and effect pattern between consumption of Viagra, Cialis, and Levitra and development of melanoma skin cancer, it does bring into focus the various biological ways in which melanoma develops.

While the exact biological causes of melanoma skin cancer are quite complex, one cause has to do with hyperactivation of biological pathways responsible for the increase and survival of melanoma cells.

This hyperactivation is generally regulated by a human protein called BRAF and according to the Harvard study, 50 percent of melanoma tumors contain some kind of BRAF mutation.

As it so happens, researchers have discovered that BRAF and Viagra inhibit the same protein-coding enzyme called PDE5A. Based on this discovery, scientists speculate that by inhibiting this enzyme, Viagra and its cousin drugs Cialis and Levitra may be aiding the development of primary melanoma tumors."

Will Rogers said it best. "It doesn't matter what they are saying, they are talking about money." Of course he was referring to politicians at the time. I think it applies to litigating lawyers 1000%.

Sweet baby-Jesus, Mary and Joseph and the three kings I've just flushed my valuable Viagra down the drain. I'll hit my willy with a hammer to increase blood flow and slapped on some 50+ sunscreen. From now on I shall venture outside at night like the walking dead!

Stuff all of this and enjoy life!

Sonny, thanks. This may explain why my dermatologist has increased his digging, scraping and zapping.

Prato, scientist tend to speculate a lot. The writer probably should have used terms like hypotesize or theorize. You know, like the theory of realtivity, or the Big Bang theory.

PSA, once again spot on. What's a bit blue vision, back ache, or melanoma versus sex? (Do you apply the sunscreen before or after the hammer slam?).

When I was a kid I got a lot of sun. Way too much, based on what we know now. And while I no lager sit in the sun every chance I get, I do get a lot of sun every summer when I spend 10 days in Aruba.

So I guess I can takeViagra after surgery, go to Aruba afterwards, have a lot of sex, then if I get skin cancer, Sue the manufacturer of the drug and everyone else in sight

Prat:

Well-stated.

As a youngster, I spent a week a year at Rockaways, on the beach every day.

We didn't know any better, and it was always a sure-fire way to get attention at school when one had a beet red sunburn. Then the peeling and the nice new skin. It was actually a source of pride.

about 10 years ago, I got a small basal cell carcinoma on my wrist. Clearly visible, so got it checked out quickly. Easy surgery -- 15 minutes in my family doctor's office and I was cured. Who knows what specific sunburn decades earlier caused it.

I sure wish PC was that easy to take care of!

Mel, yes, if we knew then what we know now.
I saw a dermatologist 6 months ago for a checkup, very overdue, and I guess I've been lucky I that department at least. Now that I know I'm not in the "it could never happen to me" club, I'll be seeing him every year.

BTW, my wife and her family, and the entire Sephardic tribe, spent their summers in the Rockaways when she was a kid.
