One of my nieces is sick with worry over her mother (not married to my brother) who has recurrent breast cancer with recently confirmed metastases to her lung. Since my niece knows that I am a cancer survivor she reached out to me for any help/advice I might be able to offer.

If a relative came to me with prostate cancer I would hold up this forum as an excellent resource (despite my ham-handed contributions) but the HealingWell Breast Cancer forum is much less active and I am afraid much less helpful.

I know some of you have dealt with breast cancer and might know of some resources I could recommend to my niece. We have had similar threads in the past here but I can't seem to find them. Kindly excuse me for launching into a topic that was recently covered.

Thanks.

Peter,
"The Breast Cancer Survival Manual" by Dr John Link.
My wife was Dxed with stage 3 BC in 2004 and because it was near the Xmas holidays, we had a very hard time getting any initial appointments. A distant friend who also had recurrent BC found out and made her an appointment with Dr Link, it helped that she was a major donor to his foundation.
Dr Link is one of the top BC oncologists in the US and a consultation with him for a 2nd opinion or treatment would be highly recommended; he's located in southern Cal.
70 years old, rising psa for 10 years from 4 to 40; 12 biopsies and MRIS all negative. Oct 2009 DXed with G6 <5%. Color Doppler biopsy found 2.5 cm G4+3. Combidex clear. Seeds and IMRT, 4 weeks of urinary frequency and urgency; no side affects since then. 6 years of psa's all at <0.1.

A lot of his patients have recurrent BC so he is well experience with that stage of BC.

Peter - have you been through HW's very own BC section?

But what a small world... My #1 client that I've known for 12 years is going through the exact same thing. She had surgery just yesterday to remove the mass on her lung. Will be doing chemo after that.

She's a fighter and everyone including her team of doctors has high hopes for a good outcome.

Steve,

Yes, I've looked at the HW Breast Cancer forum and have sent a link to it to my nieces boyfriend. (He's the one who contacted me.) The problem is that that forum isn't very active compared to our forum. They haven't had a single post or comment so far today, only one yesterday, as far as I can see, and similar numbers each day for the last several months. Their first page goes back to last November. Ours goes back to last night at 10:20pm. They are something of a read-only forum, their page view to comment ratio is somewhere around 1000:1. For every thousand views someone makes a comment. Ours is around 20:1. Dunno why. It's possible that women simply don't like to talk about their problems online. It's also possible that the conversation is going on elsewhere.

breastcancer.org is more active than HW. Usually there is someone there to talk to and they do have lots of info. Not as good as this forum is for PC but it could probably help. ~Miki~
