I would love to do something like this, but don't know if I'll be able to. I take care of my mother-in-law and help some with my own mom, as well as hubby. But I have some ideas.....
Charlotte, NC (my hometown) has a great airport, with easy connections to almost anywhere. And both NC and SC have great places to visit in late summer, fall or winter. Charlotte itself would make a good base, with maybe some daytrips possible to the NC wine country (yes- we DO have a wine area- just east of Charlotte) and NC BBQ (both in one day is definitely possible). Asheville is just a 1 1/2- 2 hour drive, and has artist communities, music,
The Biltmore house (lovely Xmas décor and its own winery, gardens, etc.), and there are some excellent art museums and one good history museum in Charlotte, as well as great shopping and a good variety of restaurants.
Or head to the mountains if early fall, for the leaves and great food.
Or to the NC or SC beaches- plenty of good houses to rent and lots to see, do (or not do- as in just sit on the beach), and eat.
