This is my second post on this forum, although I have been lurking for the past six months or so. I have a question that I have not seen and am wondering if anyone else has experienced what I am experiencing now. For about a year and a half, my PSA had been slowly rising, and at about the same time it began to rise, I began having intermittent symptoms that seemed like urinary tract infections. Due to my rising PSA and the absence of any abnormalities in UA's or subsequent urine cultures, my urologist suggested that I might be experiencing prostatitis or prostate cancer. At the first occurrence of symptoms, he gave me a couple of weeks worth of Cipro and the symptoms disappeared, only to come back a couple of months later. At the second occurrence, tests and treatment were the same; negative UA and culture, and the uro again suggested Cipro. I should point out that by this time, he was also suggesting biopsy, but my denial system really wanted me to have prostatitis instead of cancer, so I went with the antibiotic. Again a two week course, and again symptoms disappeared. We repeated this a few times. In the middle of this, July 2014, my urologist went on vacation and while he was gone, I began to experience the usual symptoms. This time, however, I developed severe pain in my abdomen and ended up in the ER, where my UA was positive for blood and I was diagnosed with kidney stone(s). I passed it/them, and my symptoms went away. After a couple of more rounds of urinary tract symptoms and Cipro treatment, I finally relented and had the biopsy. I was diagnosed with PC in March 2015, and had Da Vinci surgery the beginning of July 2015. I am recovering well, with no incontinence, but lo and behold, my urinary symptoms returned! This time, a urine culture was positive, and I was given one week's worth of Cipro (by the uro on call, as mine was again on vacation). At the end of the week, I was still experiencing symptoms: pain, urgency, frequency and also general malaise, so the uro office had me do a UA and another culture, both of which came back negative. For the last couple of days, I have been okay, but last night, I was up every two hours to pee. My urologist, now back from vacation, has told me that he is scheduling a CT to "rule out kidney stones and to make sure there are no anomalies in your urinary tract." My question is this: has anyone else experienced anything like this in conjunction with their PC or PC treatment? I was a Gleason 6 (3+3), confirmed at surgery, with negative margins/lymph node involvement. I have not been able to find another experience like this; it makes me wonder if there were two unrelated things going on all the time. Thanks for reading.
