..not all surgeries are the same...all recoveries are different...He will be fine...
Scary thing huh? Not knowing....dealing with things we're unfamiliar with and feel ill prepared to deal with.
My surgery went a little sideways as well. I wont go into it all but....i had spasms (10 hrs worth)...a torn suture. ..etc...my spasms were on day 3 post op. I never had another one after that (though it wasn't for lack of opportunity). I think some of our bladders just say "what the heck is this...I'm confused!". But...Once the little fella realizes "this is just the way it's gonna be"...it give up fighting it and accepts the inevitable. I don't believe your husband will have another spasm. (He can now say he knows what a "10" feels like on the pain scale!). He won't have another I don't believe.
What I didn't have is nausea from the anesthesia (who could know?)....stopped up cath...etc...
We're all sent home with those "catheter clearer" kits. If you have to do it...you will. Harder on the nerves than on the body. You'll do it if needed.
Its one thing to read this stuff out of a book...another to live it....especially if whats going on isnt "book". But...fwiw...I Haven't heard a thing from your post that should have any lasting effects. It's all good... (under the circumstances)
Hang in there Annie....while stressful. ....you're fine.
Please let us know about
Edit: If you're worried about
the bladder neck sutures holding a test called a "cystogram" can be done. It's nothing more than an x-ray before the cath is pulled. It may inconvenience some people but if it puts your minds at rest...and prevents more problems. ...but I'm not a doc and may be speaking out of turn.
