I am in Atlanta. I don't know of any in SC. My brother in law has been well treated at Duke, they have a strong prostate cancer clinic. In Atlanta, Vaughn Kasabian is well regarded and is a partner of my urologist. One of the best in the nation is Oliver Sartor at Tulane in New Orleans. You might call his office and see if there are med oncs in your area that they collaborate with.
I also am in Greenville. I appear to have dodged the PCA bullet. As I mulled over the process to get a solid diagnosis, after much thought, research and a number of stupid questions on the forum, I finally decided to go to Duke. I suggest you give that a consideration if you can work that out.
There is a Hilton Garden Inn that has a medical rate, and a shuttle over to the Cancer center.
Almost within walking distance, but the shuttle runs all day.
Perhaps they would then collaborate with Hilanders guy.
Basically, while there are a number of good local people, if it were me I would be more comfortable with my initial treatment plan being provided by a tertiary cancer center and then when on track continue with a local center in collaboration.
Dr. Polascik at Duke was excellent to work with. I had an an very positive experience with Duke and at the Hilton Garden Inn. Was impressed by Duke and their manner.
I am on Medicare with supplement F, so I only had to pay the Hilton Garden Inn. I basically referred myself, with lab work showing elevated PSA.
Not sure of what referral or cost there might be in your case with you not being on Medicare.
Everyone has to take the path they deem correct for themselves, and that is different for different people and circumstances.
Hate to see you have become a full-fledged member of the club. The longer you hang around the forum the more you will learn and be better able to manage your condition and your life.
This is a great group of guys, and an extremely knowledgeable bunch. Far more knowledgeable than a new poster might readily believe.
