Unfortunately there are people who are consciously not using conventional cancer treatments and instead using alternatives.
My son's father-in-law's cousin has a form of hodgekins disease (I believe) that will require chemo and radiation as the evidence-based standard of care. She is rejecting both because of what she has witnessed when other people have used these treatments for other cancers. ...........
I can understand somewhat how she feels. I guess - or hope- she will at least look at the numbers for her particular cancer. We still are not over the nightmare of losing our 40 year old DIA to, of all things, mesothelioma. As far as we could tell the chemo- with it's terrible SEs- didn't do squat. She was gone 5 months after diagnoses. And it was horrible. We will never know if the chemo added a month or two of life, but we certainly know it added suffering. Frankly, I can't help but wonder if it actually sped up her demise, 5 months is pretty quick for such a young woman. And I think expected survival was more like 1 year or even two. But the chemo was really rough on her. And, though insurance got the most of it, it cost some one mega $.
OTOH, I have a friend from HS who recently came down with kidney cancer. He had surgery and chemo(not sure about
RT). He just had his scans showing him doing well enough to stop the chemo. He started with one brand of chemo with horrible SEs(pills I think), which they said most people did not get nearly that bad. They switched him to another, and he has cake walked through that, no real problems. And now he is in remission for who knows how long?
I wonder which extreme this lady would fall into, or maybe something in between? I hope she is doing some thorough research.
