I loved "Flowers for Algernon" when I first read it in my youth as the original short story that won the Hugo Award for best science fiction short story in 1960. I cried at the ending. I was one of those book-ish kids who was doing very well in school, and the story helped me realize that no matter what kind of grades anybody got, or how intelligent or talented anybody was, .... each of us still remains infinitely ignorant.
