In a recent thread about
setting up your profile so other members can send you email,
if you look on the left side of a post or comment there is an icon that looks like an envelope. If it is in color (like mine) then you can click it to send an email to the member. If it is black and white (like yours) the member has chosen not to show other members the address.
And no sooner had I written that than it ceased to be true.
The site is undergoing a much needed facelift just now and that icon that looks like an envelope currently seems to be gone. You can still send email to members who have chosen to show their email address in their profile. But it takes an extra click or two. If you look at my name (PeterDisAbelard) to the left of this text you will see that it is a hyperlink (you can click it to go to another page). It takes you to a page that shows information from my profile and links to my last 10 comments*. One of the pieces of information on that page is my email address.
If you are logged in, all posts and comments have links to the members profile (click their name on the left side of the page). If you are not logged in it takes you to a login page.
Whether or not your email address is visible to other members is something you can set in your profile. (Moderators all have visible email addresses but not all members do.) If you need help finding the control to make you email address visible, drop me a note and I will help with that.
Hopefully the envelope icon will return (in a new, even more beautiful form) when the face-lift is complete.
*Those last 10 comments are really useful with new members who haven't put their information in a signature yet. Usually in their first posting they will mention things like their PSA and whether or not they've had a biopsy and if they've posted fewer than 10 comments you can read everything they've ever told us and avoid asking the same questions over and over again.
