When I had my RALP, I had staples (first time for me). I was told--best I can remember anyway (it's been 4 years), to keep the dressings on for 7 days, then go for removal. I seem to remember, however, that the dressing was waterproof, so a shower (on a bench, not standing) was possible.
Same when I had appendicitis in 2013, but that was sutures, not staples. I think they were even dissolving sutures.
Back in 2006, I had two melanomas taken off my back, in that case, i was to change the dressings periodically and try to keep them dry. I had dressings for a while, they didn't pull all the sutures at once to prevent the wounds from re
openning (no slack skin on your back).
