I just got back from my biopsy. Much more discomfort than the first one. This dr. Didn’t use any drugs. He did say he was shooting anesthesia into the prostate.

The first one didn’t knock my all the way out, but in the words of Pink Floyd I was comfortably numb.

He did the standard grid samples. Sent me home. He said I should hear from him toward the end of the week. I asked them to send to Epstein for a 2nd opinion, though I presume the guys at Vanderbilt are probably pretty good at it too.

The waiting game starts with me in my recliner winching every 30 seconds or so. I took 4 Tylenol when we got to a gas station. I think I may have a hydraco left from something earlier this year. May have to hit that tonight, but I think this will probably settle down by then.

Have a good night everyone!

Larry, good luck. Drink lots of water....you need to keep the clots flushed out. You'll be fine (physically at least) in a few days....

Larry...First I hope your biopsy results contain no surprises. Second I noticed your PSA results are a little jumpy. All of my PSA blood tests were taken by the same local draw site and all were reported by our local hospital. I assumed they were all tested at the lab of our local hospital. My results were also a little scattered and upon investigation I found that two labs were involved. When I questioned why two labs; I was told that our hospital lab could not run ‘free PSA’ so those were sent to Quest. They also said that due to the workload at the hospital lab they sometimes sent samples out to Quest in order to get them completed in a timely fashion. Turns out that the two labs use different standards and there is a known bias. Just a heads up for those that track PSA closely.

Sorry it was a rough road, Larry. Your situation and mine sound quite close. You said standard grid samples. Does this mean it was not a guided biopsy? At any event, sending your slides to Epstein is a good idea and will only set you back $275.

Good luck!

Well, Two days out and I fell much better. I worked three hours yesterday just because I had to get stuff done. I took the whole day off with comp time so when someone saw me at the office I told them I was not here.

It was not a guided biopsy. They did a MRI back in April and nothing showed up for them to look at. That is a great thing. They had the guided scheduled for May but cancelled after the MRI.

I have used the same dr. and lab for the PSA except the 5.5. That was at my first Urologist office. I use my regular Dr. for the tests. The 5.9 we believe was due to me going to the gym right before the test. I didn't use a bike, but did 4 miles on the elliptical and did some weights. I thought no bike no problem. I restrained from the gym for 3 days before the most recent test.

I should have results by the end of the week.

It seems like I have a little more blood in my urine, but my memory may be fuzzy after 9 or 10 months. It still doesn't look like tomato soup so no issues. They said call them if it does that.

On a funny note, the nurse said strip from the waist down and sit on the table. There was a blanket on the table but I didn't know when it would be used. She walked back in the room and looked and said "you are not shy are you?". I said I did exactly what I was told to do. She didn't mention using the blanket. My wife was there and I asked her for verification. We all got a good laugh about that one.

Thanks for all the well wishes!

Well, the results are in. I am almost ecstatic. Only one of the 12 cores returned with cancer. It was 3+3 and from the same area that they already knew something was there. The other 5 quadrants came back clear again. Dr. Smith said no more biopsies for 18 months unless something goes screwy with the PSA scores. Now I can relax again for another 4 months and 3 weeks until the next PSA test.

They had the Maggie Moos ice cream truck at work today. Even though I am trying to become the best me possible (down 47 pounds since Christmas), I thought this was a good time to celebrate. Cool Mint with M+M's for me!

"almost"?? Some people are never satisfied...if it got any better you'd be disqualified from the PCa forum ;-)

Your relaxation time is 18 months, not 5 months, so relax with some good BBQ and mint ice cream. We're ALL envious!

I was figuring 5 months because that will be the next PSA test and there is stress with that as well.

Ok, I was ecstatic. If you can cry and be ecstatic at the same time.

I had m+m's in the ice cream since there were no chocolate chips in it.

Almost done bleeding when I pee. That is a good thing. I can go back to non-black underwear..
