My surgeon was a female, and is very experienced as she has been doing them since 2003. I was very pleased with the outcome, as side effects have been minimal.
My modesty pretty much went out the window when I was told I had cancer, and getting a biopsy (by my male urologist, with a female assistant) pretty much finished it off, so I'am comfortable talking to her in my post surgery followups. It was a bit surreal though in a pre op consultation to be sitting in a room with her and my wife discussing my future sexual functions......
