All of us on this forum are in the category - by virtue of our age alone, not to factor in our cancer status (which I've no idea about
in terms of COVID-19) - that doesn't do as well as younger people if we contract the virus. How does a nation, any nation, protect that vulnerable segment of its population from infectious disease? They protect them with standard, tried and true, public health measures that have been used for centuries. They protect them with the measures China has in place, measures that have been successful. Italy is now moving toward these same measures, too late for many. Absent a vaccine, there isn't any other way.
I've seen no data that indicates smokers do worse. I've heard a lot of talk about
them doing worse, but no solid evidence, from medical professionals, that they do.
The point about
the concession worker was that absent mass testing we've no idea the lay of the land in terms of who has it, and who doesn't. For that reason, holding mass public events, whether they be a basketball tournament, baseball game, or any other sporting event, or political rally and leaving schools, colleges, workplaces, theaters, stores, churches etc.
open is bad public policy, that will spread the virus needlessly, as we shall see in the coming weeks. It is irresponsible, and will cause deaths.
