So this thread is for ranting and raving? Am I allowed to do so in a civil manner? Then I will repeat what I have said more than once before, knowing full well many will label me either crazy, or a quack, or both. And most of you already know what I am about
to say, because you have heard it all before. But as long as what I call ( if I am to be nice ) "the insanity" continues, then I must speak out.
Despite numerous RCTs and non randomized trials, our governmental and medical authorities refuse to advise the public about
the probable benefits of high blood levels of vitamin D, vitamin C, zinc, and most especially IV vitamin C. Once again I say that the majority of folks who end up in ICU and on a ventilator and even dying from CV-19 actually end up dying from sepsis. The very same sepsis ( multiple organ failure) that kills so many other ICU patients, though the sepsis is normally caused by something other than CV-19. Like, for example, our normal flu viruses. Or various other massive infections. Or trauma. The original cause varies, but it is the progression to sepsis that very often actually does us in.
There have now been multiple RCTs showing an extremely significant benefit for supplementing with high doses of vitamin D when it comes to the ability to fight off flu virus and asthma attacks(after all, the #1 trouble with CV-19 or flu leading to death is lung related issues). I have previously linked to these RCTs.
There are now multiple studies indicating that IV vitamin C is tremendously helpful- indeed more helpful than any drug they already have- for treating sepsis, Especially when administered at the very first sign of sepsis.
Now, most of us can not get IV vitamin C even if we beg or raise heck, but it is rational to assume that massive doses of oral vitamin C might offer at least some benefit. And even more likely that a new form of oral vitamin C, liposomal, would help even more, a lot more. But once you are actually sick enough with CV-19 for the hospital, IMO and until proven otherwise, to withhold IV vitamin C is major malpractice, immoral(until proven useless) and is responsible for a significant # of deaths. IMO.
But what if once the big RCT in China, with 24,000 mg per day of IV vitamin C, once the results are released, Vit C proves to be of little or no help for CV-19? Well big deal. There has not been a single study so far, using massive doses(much larger than 24K mg/day) that has shown any significant SEs from that treatment. And it is dirt cheap compared to any drug we have, all of which do have SEs. So if they try it, it is highly unlikely to hurt anything, and at little cost. So why in the heck would you not try it? Or what if the studies show a benefit of only 10%, like our flu shots some years, how many lives would that save?
Every time I see another big 2 hour press conference with doctors telling us about
their hopes for this drug or that vaccine, while continuing to tell us how for existing drugs "there is no evidence so we don't dare recommend it even for already dying patients", and then they continue their silence about
evidence for benefits of these approaches, it makes me want to puke. Or scream at the TV. How can they not at least tell the public " this MIGHT be of some help"? How can they not tell physicians "hey, there is at least some evidence that high dose vitamin C might help and most likely will not hurt."? WTH?
I stumbled on to this study last night. It is comparing placebo to "lower dose"(still considered high by some folks) IV vitamin C to high dose IV vitamin C to placebo. This is similar to Dr. Marik's studies which I have linked to before, except without the hydrocortisone and Vitamin B1, and much larger doses(at least in the high dose group) of IV vitamin C than Marik used. Now let me go ahead and say that these very same folks did a more recent study, for some reason only using the lower dose of vitamin C, and did not have near as impressive results as their first study in many areas, BUT STILL had a very significant improvement in the most imprtant bottom line: mortality. Just like Marik did. But scroll down to figure 4(EDIT: error, I meant fig 2) "Effect of ascorbic acid(vitamin C) infusion on Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) score (days 0–4)". Notice that, compared to placebo, the "low dose" Vit C( 50 mg/kg/24 hr, or about
5000 mg/day for a 100 kg person, really not all that much) slashed the SOFA(organ failure) score very significantly, whole placebo got slightly worse. But more importantly, notice that "high dose" (200 mg/kg/24 hr, or about
20,000 mg/day for a 100 kg person, still not all that much as some folks give 100K mg/day IV) slashed the SOFA score an equal additional amount! As the authors summarized:
"SOFA scores are robust indicators of mortality during critical illness. SOFA score increases during the first 48 hours of ICU care predict a mortality rate of at least 50% . In this study, the extent of organ failure accompanying patients with severe sepsis was high with an average SOFA score for all patients equal to 11.4 ± 3 confirming that multiple organ failure was present at enrollment. Given that the mean plasma ascorbic acid levels on admission were subnormal (17.9 ± 2.4 μM), a mean initial SOFA score of 11.4 ± 3 in patients with severe sepsis was not surprising. This study is in agreement with other studies which show that plasma ascorbic acid levels in severe sepsis correlate inversely with the incidence of multiple organ failure . We showed that the addition of ascorbic acid to standard of care practice (i.e., fluid resuscitation, antibiotics, vasopressor medication) for patients with severe sepsis significantly reduced organ injury. Ascorbic acid treated patients exhibited prompt and sustained reductions in SOFA scores
during the 4-day treatment regimen unlike placebo controls where SOFA scores slowly increased over time. SOFA score reduction was most remarkable in patients receiving the high dose ascorbic acid infusion............................. No patient in the low or high dose ascorbic acid treatment arms of this study suffered any identifiable adverse event.
As noted above, the one instance in which ascorbic acid infusion was halted for a cardiac rhythm disturbance was determined to be artifact by the Division of Cardiology. Thus, a pharmacologic ascorbic acid treatment strategy in critically ill patients with severe sepsis appears to be safe...................". Please realize what these results mean: the Sepsis Organ Failre (SOFA) scores increased in the placebo group, which most assuredly were getting all the best that a modern medicine ICU had to offer. Then they added the vitamin C, and organ failure score plummeted. Why is this not headline news, and why do our med/gov authorities not tell us about
such as this? (this is not the only study) And why aren't there studies going on in every hosptals in America? WTH?
Can any one tell me why these doctors and government officials are not recommending that every one admitted to ICU with CV-19 be started immediately on IV vitamin C? After all, if it doesn't really help much, what is it going to hurt? Or why they are not telling the public about
this, and why they don't tell us that it is also at least possible that keeping blood vitamin D and C at good high levels might keep them from ever needing IV vitamin C in the first place?? This is something worthy of ranting about
. It is quite possible that thousands will die for lack of this available, cheap, SE free treatment. Which for some bizarre reason they refuse to mention to us. I'll leave it to Y'all to figure out why. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/pmc3937164/
