I imagine most of you are already familiar with the YANANOW ("You Are Not Alone") website, a sister prostate cancer site on the web that offers much valuable information and PCa resources.
Well, while thinking about
COVID-19 and the impact it is surely having on the lives of many men dealing with PCa these days, I remembered that the YANANOW site maintains a searchable database of the submitted stories of men giving accounts of their experiences with PCa.
Then I wondered if some of these stories might be including references to the impacts that COVID-19 was having on their lives, as well as their having to deal with PCa.
That is, accounts of the real-life impacts of COVID-19 on the lives of real men with PCa. So I went to the YANANOW search engine pagehttp://yananow.org/query_stories.php
and did a search (using the "Keyword" box) and entering only "COVID" (without quotes) as the single search term, in order to bring up all the stories in the database that made mention of COVID.
This action produced 46 hits. That is, the stories of men who had included talk about
COVID as part of their accounts of their own PCa journeys.
I then accessed these 46 individually, read through each, copied out the references to COVID in them, and after a little editing, arranged the references into the categories below.
Again, real men with real PCa experiences, like us, talking about
the experiences they have also had with COVID.
What some of our PCa brothers have had to say about
their own dealings with the vitus.

"We were about to explore that further together when Covid got in the way, cutting us off from the community we needed help from to explore it."
"I have been self isolating during COVID-19, so I skipped my quarterly blood draw."
HARDER TO GET APPOINTMENTS/TESTS"With this COVID-19 s---, it is kind of hard to get a PSA blood test."
"I have not had a PSA test or any Doctor appointment in 2020 as yet due to covid 19."
"Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, I have not been able to fly to New York to see my urologist (Dr. David Samadi) in person but I have spoken to him by phone and communicate with him via social media."
"Due to the issues with Covid-19 I have had to push my regular check up back to August."
"I was booked for surgery and a few weeks before surgery (which was to be out of province) COVID hit and surgery was cancelled / postponed."
"Due to covid19 I had telephone consultations rather than face to face meetings with my oncologist."
"With the covid-19 situation, my annual physical has been postponed for now."
RESTRICTIONS DUE TO COVID"Covid 19 has stopped sports so my reduced activity due to the hormones has not really affected me much."
"Nothing has changed, except the COVID-19 pandemic has ruined my physical exercise routine. No Pilates classes, gym workouts, or lap swimming."
"The emotion of dealing with the covid pandemic has also been more or less kept under control by the Mirtazapine dose."

"Well I put on a lot of weight. Some from the shot but mostly due to the COVID-19 quarantined and lack of exercise."
HOPEFUL THOUGHTS"I contracted Covid 19 on June 25th and was very sick for over a month. I was in the hospital for two days with pneumonia. Still getting my strength and stamina back. with my age, my PC and my type 2 Diabetes I thought maybe I could die but God had other plans so I'm still kicking...Thank You Lord!"
"That's me, until my next post - by which time, hopefully, I've received a Covid-19 vaccine - which will allow us to travel again."
AND THIS..."I am worried more about COVID than the side affects of my prostate cancer."
"Take care my fellow PC warriors and don't let Covid get you before PC."
"The Covid-19 pandemic then came upon us and I worried more about that for a while."
"One of these days, science will find a way to kill this scourge without causing any or fewer side effects. It's like waiting for a Covid vaccine, I guess."
AND A FINAL THOUGHT..."Then the COVID-19 arrived and, having beaten cancer and a wonky heart valve, I have no intention of surrendering to it ... Stay isolated and avoid social contact and you too may have a good outcome from the dreaded virus - only 35 deaths so far in Australia, compared to thousands in most countries. Social isolation is THE key."
