We saw the radiologist yesterday. This doctor has really been a Godsend as everything they’ve radiated has magically made Jeff’s pain go away.
Unfortunately as Jeff has declined and his pain has soared, there just isn’t anything left to target.
Jeff has been faced with unbelievable obstacles literally from the day he was diagnosed. As Jeff is experiencing more pain when he stands/sits or is walking, the radiologist is now concerned his femur may fracture.
As we looked at the images our daughter questioned which part was the bone versus which part was the cancer. Dr. Shumway explained it was difficult to see as the cancer was a brighter white. Basically, there’s so much cancer, there was really no distinction between Jeff’s bone and the cancer, it was just one big white mess. The bone structure has changed and because it’s weight bearing, there’s now concern of it breaking.
Jeff is now being referred to an orthopedic surgeon. They’ll determine if a rod needs to be placed. This would only prevent further catastrophe, it won’t however help with pain. Another surgery would be crummy, but a fracture would be detrimental to Jeff’s well being.
