it almost always comes down to politics so we are just spinning our wheels here. it's time to break out the stick and then i'll bet we can get to 80% vaccinated

4,930,000,000 doses of the Covid vaccines have been given worldwide. To the vaccine hesitant: How much testing of the efficacy of the vaccine do you need to convince you to get vaccinated? What would the number of Covid deaths be today if everyone was vaccine hesitant, and wanted to wait years for a vaccine to be tested before being approved for human use? How many of you have refused treatment for prostate cancer because of the risk of side effects?

And yes, Ed, politics has contaminated the vaccination issue beyond comprehension.

The only side effect I've gotten from two doses of the Moderna vaccine is an increasing anger at the unvaccinated. The ICU at the hospital down the road from me is full of Covid patients, doubtless all unvaccinated.

Just look at what’s going on in the low vaccination states vs high vaccination states. And look at what is going on around the world.
That’s all the evidence I need. As Jim said, sometimes common sense prevails. Any risks of ill effects from the vaccine have been exceedingly rare. Especially when you compare to the risks of Covid.not rare at all.

Very sad.

My Wings may be Red after this ..but...In the category of IMO, Some rules of grammar state:

Rule 8a. Quotation marks are often used with technical terms, terms used in an unusual way, or other expressions that vary from standard usage.

The word vaccine (thanks for noting my mispelling, Mel) is not a technical term, (it's a real thing), not unusual, nor does it vary from standard usage....except for those who "do not believe" in "Science". Again, just my opinion. Oopps.. I might have used quotations incorrectly there myself.

Winging it, just for the heck of it

I resemble that "fact" the conversation is moot anyway...ya just keep on saying the same thing over and over and over...using different threads to do so..."Does the name Ruby Begonia strike a familiar note" Kingfish from back in the day...

Mandates are coming.....

"Requiring people to get a vaccine is part of the fabric of American history going back to the Revolutionary War. General George Washington compelled troops to get a smallpox variolation, saying it was necessary to safeguard soldiers and to win the war. And not only is mandating vaccination lawful, but it is also an ethical responsibility. For far too long, Americans have asked the question, “What entitlements do I have as a rights-bearing citizen?” It’s now time to ask, “What duties do I owe to my neighbors, my community and my country?” Getting a COVID-19 vaccine as the nation and the world are undergoing a historic health crisis is badly needed for the common good and mutual solidarity."

As I mentioned earlier, the city of Tucson recently required that all city employees be vaccinated. On the local news today it was reported that police officers and fire fighters are claiming religious exemptions at a much, much higher rate than would normally be expected. The city is now considering setting up some sort of review process for the exemptions.

I'll tell ya, there is a significant portion of the population that's going to fight the vaccines tooth and nail.

Raise their health and life insurance rates, dont let them on airplanes, trains, buses, dont allow entrance to movie theaters, ball games, night clubs Force their kids to get homeschooled. That'll solve the problem.

I know thats radical, and would turn a lot of people off. At this point, i dont give a flying fruck.
There. I said it. Yeah, I'm angry. We could have had this under control.

Hi Mel,
I am happy some clinics are taking this stance. Since moving to the country I hate going to town and being around people. I think I am becoming a recluse. I have friends that swear the vax is what is causing the virus to spread and mutate. Needless to say we don’t hang out much

From the Scientific American magazine: "In June the Kaiser Family Foundation polled people about getting the vaccine. Fifty-seven percent of unvaccinated adults said what’s in the news about COVID is generally exaggerated. Only 22 percent of vaccinated adults say this. And 71 percent of unvaccinated adults say they are not at all worried, or not too worried, about getting sick from the virus."

'Houston, we have a problem.'

What percentage of those who don't trust doctors' advice about the Covid vaccines trust doctors to save their lives if they are hospitalized with Covid? Take the audiologist who, as the couples leaves the office, whispers to the wife "Your husband's hearing is fine--he's probably just a selective listener." Are many of these folks "selective conspiracists?

I have had people tell me that they won’t get the vaccine because they don’t know what is in it, yet, they will eat a hot dog.

I live in the only state that has completely banned vaccine and mask mandates across the board: hospitals, schools, everywhere. The governor, a creationist, also signed a bill into law that removed all authority of local health departments to shut down businesses and gives it to local country commissions.

I am researching my options for relocating.

I've enjoyed reading the comments on vaccines.
I'm vaccinated as is everyone I know.

Funny, when I was in the army, I got 6 different vaccinations when I went to Korea.
I never heard of anyone complaining about anything other than sore arms from them.

One thing that was touched upon is the price of health insurance.
In my case, we have a Medicare supplement that increased its price 15% this year.
I did the math and we pay .nearly $17 a day for this "luxury".
We could switch to an advantage plan, but the older we get, the more we may need the extra benefits of a supplement. We are fine financially so I shouldn't complain.

Maybe there should be a way to charge the more at risk by choice more for their insurance.

Our long term care ins premiums have also increased and that's ironic with so many people in care centers who have died.

Tom, if they could do that, the antivaxers would be all be standing in long lines to get their shot. In our city Covid funds were used (with success I understand) to pay each police officer ($100 each I believe) to get a Covid vaccine. I've heard that police forces have a high percentage of naysayers who don't want to be told to follow rules themselves, but who have no problem demanding that others follow society's rules. (You would think that they too would be eager to get a shot without an incentive given the amount of contact with the public the have.)

Being against the vaccine for whatever reason is one thing--holding out for a reward and then getting the shot takes it a big step further.

I really hope something changes their minds.
I think it helps when die hard anti-vaxers die from Covid and give death bed what ifs.

I also hate it when we have to wear masks in some venues to protect the unvaccinated.

Sorry if I sound cold.

Tom, actually this is happening and I think it's a good thing. Delta Airlines is charging its employees an extra $200 per month for health insurance if they are not vaccinated. https://www.reuters.com/business/aerospace-defense/delta-add-200-monthly-health-insurance-charge-unvaccinated-staff-2021-08-25/

And, of course United Airlines is insisting that all employees be vaccinated or look for other work.

Regarding charging some people more for health insurance, I am for that. People who are bad drivers get put in their own risk group and pay a higher premium so why shouldn’t the same work for healthcare? I don’t want my health insurance premiums calculated by including those who smoke, have a high BMI, never exercise, and make other unhealthy lifestyle choices.
