I hope everyone chooses to be vaccinated. I believe it’s the safest way to control this virus.

That said, I do believe every medication comes with side effects and risks. On February 25 my wife and I had our second Moderna vaccine. My wife decided to take Tylenol before going to bed while I decided none needed since both of us had no reaction to the first shot. She woke up feeling fine while I had a temperature of 101.6 and was feeling a little crummy. I took Tylenol and felt fine afterwards. I went about a normal morning and even took the car to the mechanic to get a new battery. My wife and I enjoyed a very nice lunch and I planned on going to the YMCA that evening.

My wife heard a crash in the kitchen loud enough that she thought I pulled over the refrigerator. She came into the kitchen to find me unconscious on the floor. She determined that I had a pulse and was breathing and she called 911 for an ambulance. She saw some white on my lips and thought possibly I was having a seizure and the noticed an open ice cream container on the counter and guessed that’s why I went into the kitchen.

I was taken to our local hospital and evaluated. All they knew was they had an unconscious old man with an unobserved fall. The hospital ran blood tests, X-rays and CT scans and determined I had subdural and subarachnoid brain bleeds and called in a helicopter to fly me to a major hospital with a trauma unit. A priest gave me last rights. I have no recollection of any of this. When I asked me wife if I was unconscious she said, “you’re eyes were open when the ambulance guys got here, and you were answering simple questions; but, it was like the lights were on but nobody was home”.

After much testing including the brain trauma team the diagnosis was that I had experienced a perfect storm resulting in Vasovagal syncope. I simply and suddenly fainted with the fall resulting in trauma to my brain. The event was triggered by low blood pressure. The low blood pressure was a result of the low grade fever from the vaccine as well as my normal blood pressure pill reaching maximum effect at the time of my fall.

I believe the diagnosis to be correct following discussion with the brain trauma team. They collectively reached that conclusion after studying my CT scans and determining my scans were the result of trauma from the fall and not the bleeds causing the fall.

I share this experience simply to point out that any medication including vaccination can come with unusual and unexpected side effects. My case was uniquely rare and my only regret is that I did not pay the vaccination the respect it was due.

My brain bleeds were monitored with CT scans and over a period of seven weeks were absorbed and healed and I have no side effects that I’m aware of. I did finish that quart of butter pecan ice cream about a week later and after my discharge from the hospital. I urge you all to give some respect to any medication you take.

Will get mine when it is time, and will likely stick with Moderna, unless more info comes out that might suggest mixing it up is a good idea.

Done. Walgreens yesterday, no waiting, no fuss-just sign paper confirming immunocompromised. No side effects except arm is a little tender.

My wife had her immuno-compromised booster last Thurs at local pharmacy, had to fill out form like DYank, She had a really sore arm that evening followed by a couple of nights of head aches and chills, much worse than second Pfizer shot this time around.

The CDC is recommending that the boosters NOT be mixed.... And odds are if your card says one thing, they won't give you the other.

I believe in stacking the cards in my favor.

Booster goes in my arm as soon as it is available.

Had 2nd vaccine 2/18/21. Had my 3rd on 8/15/2021. Just happened to be in drugstore for prescription and asked when booster would be available? Pharmacist asked if my immune system was compromised? When I told her it was she said "let me sharpen my needle." No proof needed on my part.

My father got the vaccine and 5 days after the 2nd dose he was diagnosed with congestive heart failure. He was hospitalized and on oxygen for almost 2 months. He is fine now... but nah, no booster. Done with the vaccine. He received moderna vaccine from VA... also had prostate cancer many years ago. You never know what the reaction will be.

I'm really not "due" for my Moderna booster for another 6 weeks. But I think I'll get it soon anyway. Seems like a no-brainer to me given all of the anti-vax nuts still around spreading the virus.

teddydog... sounds like your dad has had a very tough time and hope he's on the mend. At the same time, how do you know the vaccine caused the heart failure?

For those who asked... based on analysis by his cardiologist, he felt it was a likely causal relationship between the shot and his congestive heart failure. It's not a well published side effect, but the shot does affect the heart. My dad was fine before the shot and after his hospital stay, 6 weeks of rehab etc, he is fine now. There was no medical issue that would have brought this on in the period that this happened. 5 days after the 2nd shot he was in the hospital and could not breath due to all the fluid around his heart and lungs.

The WALL STREET JOURNAL just reported that booster shots for corona will likely be recommended for 6 months following one's original vaccination ------rather than the 8 month waiting period.

As we know, immuno-compromised folks are already eligible to receive the booster.

Many of us here got our initial vaccinations last winter or early spring --- so the timeframe for boosters might be here sooner, rather than later.

Just an update to share on this topic ---

like i said, the US is behind the curve because we are trying to appease the craz... vaccine hesitant. germany, UK and israel are already boosting

remember, its old people like us who were vaccinated first and most vulnerable to the virus. i did not wait. i broke the rules. i'm okay with it. i'm ahead of the curve but none of us is out of the woods!

Israeli study indicates immunity conferred by natural infection appears superior at fighting off the Delta variant than the original set of vaccines.

Although both wane over time.

The immune system is an amazing thing.

My preference is to get immunity through vaccinations, rather than trying to survive covid and pca at the same time. And if I do come down with covid, hopefully the vaccine will keep me out of the hospital.

So: that is interesting, but what is your takeaway from this?
Shucks, the vaccine ain't that great?
Get Covid, and if you survive the ordeal you have greater immunity and managed to avoid the stick?

If the Israeli study is correct, it's certainly better news than if it didn't give you any immunity. But I still can't see why anyone would prefer immunity from getting covid way when there's a free and safe vaccine that does the same thing. And reduces your chances of hospitalization and death in case you do get it. And reduces the costs and stresses on our health care system. And helps our economy open up. That's a triple win in my book: good for the individual, good for the larger pool of people needing health care, and good for economy.

I keep thinking of all those internet ads that say something like "one simple thing to do to reduce belly fat." In this case there really *is* one simple thing we can do to help end the pandemic.
