Doc said yes to future Lu-177 treatments. Not sure if insurance would say yes, but I’d spend the money if not. Thanks.

Hello, Steve55777 ~~~

It's tremendous news that you have shared!

Debt of GRATITUDE to you, for trailblazing a path FORWARD ... with this new treatment.

It represents a new approach --- different than radiation, chemotherapy, ZYTIGA, XTANDI, PROVENGE, and so forth ... and every weapon added to the castle armory helps!

It's absolutely STAGGERING to me that you could go from a PSA of about 65 in August of 2021 to a PSA of 1.00 by April 2022.

That's not a decline --- it's a PLUMMET --- a FREEFALL !

I have followed your posts, every step of the way.

Gosh --- now that your last treatment is finished up, is it conceivable that your PSA could drop even further? Wouldn't that be something!

As with chemotherapy, it's ALSO promising to hear that another round of LUTETIUM-177 can be given, down the road, if needed.

Treatments like that give us the hope and promise that we can keep striving towards maintaining our health goals ... and "kicking the can" down the road, even farther.

We keep "kicking that can" --- and new treatments ARE emerging --- and older treatments are being combined with new treatments, to produce greater synergistic effects.

With the LUTETIUM-177 --- as with other treatments --- I have no doubt that future studies will find even more benefits --- including the thought of introducing it earlier in the treatment sequence for a newly diagnosed fellow.

Not to be missed was your statement that almost every fellow was helped in SOME way -- in terms of reduction in bone pain and so forth.

You have no idea how happy I am for you --- I have held out great hope that this new treatment could help you --- and now, it's bound to help others.

Here's to a great weekend ahead, Steve55777 ~~~

Steve55777's posts here ~~~ detailing his treatment S-U-C-C-E-S-S with Lutetium-177 ~~~ have been tremendous.

Even better, his doctors have stated that additional treatments are certainly possible, down the road, if needed.

I found this brief description in a recent newsletter sent to me by the Prostate Cancer Foundation.

I especially focused on the detailed description of how prostate cancer cells are TARGETED and literally KILLED. Yes, targeted & killed!

I felt it helped me better understand these new treatments:

"TITLE: Breaking NEWS --- First-In-Class Therapy Approved For Advanced Prostate Cancer:

Lutetium- PSMA - 617 (LU- PSMA) is now FDA-approved for metastatic castrate-resistant prostate cancer patients who have received certain other treatments (androgen receptor pathway targeting agents & taxane-based chemotherapy).

Patients must also have a positive PSMA PET scan.

This represents a PARADIGM SHIFT in the treatment of advanced prostate cancer, and is HOPEFUL news for patients who have seen their disease progress, on other therapies.

LU-PSMA works to deliver a small amount of RADIATION to prostate cancer cells, anywhere in the body.

One part of the LU-PSMA molecule RECOGNIZES & BINDS to its target, called PSMA (prostate-cancer specific antigen).

PSMA is a protein that is present on nearly all prostate cancer cells, but NOT on most normal tissue.

This PSMA-seeking 'arrow' is chemically linked to a radioactive 'PAYLOAD' called LUTETIUM-177.

When LU-PSMA binds to the prostate cancer cells, the cell takes up the radioactive drug and is KILLED.

The radiation from LUTETIUM-177 travels only a short distance outside the target cell, so the surrounding normal tissue is largely spared."

My best to each & all ~~~

Cyclone,
I'm really hopeful for this technology. As usual, I also temper my enthusiasm so I don't end up too disappointed.

Wouldn't it be great if this type of treatment could someday displace ADT? Well, probably not, but one can dream. 🙂

ADT represents a totally different approach to prostate cancer control, and I doubt that it will be replaced by PSMA directed therapies.
Moreover, I believe that the current FDA guideline for Lu-177-PSMA-617 indicates that (in the USA) this therapy can only be used in castrate-resistant patients. In other words, in patients where ADT has failed.
I hope though that trials will be conducted for other patient groups. Or perhaps they already are ongoing. Experiences gained in other countries (Germany, India, Australia etc.) may be relevant as of today; I haven't' looked that far.

Hard to believe, but my PSA continues to drop, 2 1/2 months after LU-177 treatment 6 of 6.
It is now at 0.71....
Truly blessed and hoping more brothers can have this treatment with similar (miraculous) success!

Hello, Steve55777 ~~~

Tremendous, beyond words!

Last August 2021, your PSA was about 65.0 and now it has crept down into decimals!

What's even more encouraging, the LU-177 treatments seem to still be paying beneficial DIVIDENDS!

I'm just VERY thankful to read your latest post!

Truly --- no better news than this! Best news of the day!

Handshake, fellowship, & my very best ~~~

Sparky: Your doctors at MDA may be better informed, but it appears that Novartis has temporarily halted supplying the agent:

I highly recommend that you look into Pylarify as well:

There is a supply issue. Hopefully remedied soon. My LU 177 was provided at no cost on compassionate use program and prior to fda approval. I’m am the blessed of the blessed for sure. Good luck.

Sorry Sparky
My old brain made a mistake.
Pylarify is used to detect cells that express PSMA. It is NOT a therapeutic agent, AFAIK.
