     Refresh page   F5   when using a direct link from inside a thread posting     Dear Friends,   When a friend or their loved ones become ill… I go out and buy a stuffed animal for them and one for their loved one.   I’ve always felt that a little critter helps in any situation.     You need to get a special little “HELPER”…. This little helper can be anything that touches your heart.     Here’s what our little critter did for us!!!   His Name is “MURPHY”       Photos/Murphy.jpg">http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/bb179/mamabluebird1955/HealingWell%20 Photos/Murphy.jpg   He listened, He soaked up tears, He traveled with us to doctor’s appointments, He was there for the surgery, He watched over Buddy while I was at work, and he’s here right beside me as I write about him.  He took a lot of fear away.... just by being there for us.   He is a little stuffed mouse that belonged to my mother who passed away 2 years ago.   I had originally bought it for her.   She had it on her headboard and kissed this little guy every night.   We lived 3000 miles from each other.     SO… He became our little Helper…  (I made him a little paper nurses hat during the recovery time)   Your HELPER will help YOU and your HONEY through the tough MOMENTS and will help you get back on track.   He will listen to your fears and your honey’s fears too! He will be there every step you take.   He went to every doctor’s appointment with us…. And he came to the hospital to keep me company through the surgery.   The nurse called down and said Buddy was in recovery and I told her to tell him…. “Lee & Murphy will be waiting in his room” J . When the nurses wheeled Buddy in… the first thing after getting him settled was…. Who’s Murphy?? And I introduced them to our little helper!   He’s looking at me right now as I type and it truly brings a warm loving feeling in my heart to know that we had a helper.     Just one example…… Buddy was having a really rough day mentally…. And when I left for work I kissed Murphy extra... and I told him to take care of "Our Buddy"….   It worked!!!   I came home and Buddy was like a different person.   He informed me later that evening... that he and Murphy had talked through some things and he was feeling much better… J    So, get a HELPER for you and your loved one!   We still find ourselves grabbing Murphy for a GROUP HUG      When I’m on the forum…. The value of pets...

As my friend, Blackie, sits at my feet. Simply put this is a wonderful post. I feel so bad for those whose allergies don't afford them the unconditional love our pets give us. We recently added our friends Blackie, my pup,  and Charlie, our pantancerous kittie. What a blessing...With our other friends, Mickey, Sebastian, and Dirty Harry.  Kitties galore!  LOL, poor dog!  My prayer for God's blessings to our little friends.  Your post?

These pets have our hearts. I never knew the Murphy story but what a precious thread. I am so glad I found this. My heart is touched.  But we have to keep Blackie separate.  Otherwise, Murphy will spread his love all over the place...LOL.

Dear Bluebird and Tony,

Unlike you I am not an animal lover.  Dont' mind them, but just not interested.  I am, however amazed and crazy about humans.  You are two of the best I have met.  I have spent most of my life around high quality high performance people.  Those I meet here are the same. 

 Bluebird, the care giver and nurturer and lover of those who suffer.  Tony, the courageous and determined and wonderful example. 

I am humbled by your example.  I have run out of things to say.  So I will say it again.  I am humbled by your example.

Bluebird.  Where, oh where, would the jetguy be without his bluebird?  Would he be lost in space and time?  A lost soul?  Forever frightened?  Probably not, but without you and your Buddy life would have been so much more difficult.  From the bottom of my heart, I thank you.  Oh! so very much.

I'll have to do some soul searching to better understand courage. I never really thought of myself as couragous, but determined is another thing. But I have few choices there. But I will agree to everything nice that could be said about our moderators. As it pertains to Bluebird, with her staying with us we have something special. For that I am very thankful.

The year before I was diagnosed with prostate cancer our little dachshund, Henry, was gravely ill with hemolytic anemia.  He had to have blood transfusions and take special meds for a long time.  But he pulled thru and many months after he had almost died, the little guy got his health and vitality back. He and I formed a close bond during his illness and recovery.

A year later--you guessed 'er Chester--my wife and I got the difficult-to-hear news that I had prostate cancer.   And Henry seemed to sense that something was wrong.  He often sat quietly beside me, offered silent comfort and reassurance.  And when I was home for a month after surgery,  he accompanied me on walks and was a recovery buddy to me as I had been to him the year before.  My wife was instrumental in my emotional recovery from prostate cancer, but I have no doubt that Henry played an important role in my recovery as well.

Yep ~ this little dog was with Bobby through the radiation and recovery period.   They named him Mouse.   He was so small he would curl up on Bobby and lie on his throat.   The warmth was soothing.   This little dog died for no apparent reason ~ soon after Bobby’s health started to recover. The reason is apparent to me….   Mouse is watching~over someone else in need…       Thank you for sharing! We have a mini-zoo at home: 1 dog, 2 cats, 2 birds, and 1 fish.  The birds and fish "belong" to our kids.   Our beloved black lab of 12 years just passed away.  Our current little dog, an American Eskimo miniature, adds a lot of joy to our household.  One of our cats, a standard tabby and 12 years young, is the most compassionate and she knows when something is wrong with one of us.  If any family member is sick or sad, she stays by that person all day.

Hi Mama B,

I thought you might like to hear the story of our "Murphy". He was one of our first hamsters (daughter #1's pet). He was famous for his darring midnight escapes to the piano; down 2 flights of stairs, and into the family room. He must have known that there was no way we could get him out of that darn piano. Since that time we've had many more hamsters, but none have made it to the piano. Our currant critter is: "Bugbee", aka "Bennie"; he's so big I think he must be part Guinea Pig, and he's the only one that has squeaked and chirped (Jane says he does that when he's happy).

Well I hope You, Buddy & Murphy have a very Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year.

I have another special friend. It's a little bluebird. She is a very giving and outward going person. Very importantly she takes care of our friend Buddy. She also hugs Murphy when he needs it. She also made me a bit happy today, Thanks for the visit!

Hi,

I loved the animal stories whether they are alive or stuffed makes no difference long as they are giving comfort.  We have two special guys in our life, both adopted from shelters.  One is Harley, a beautiful 90 lb black lab and Scooter a scruffy looking grey Lhasa Apso.  They are the best of friends and our shadows, and our best buddies. You know they can sense when someone is feeling bad.  Whether you are sick, or sad.. they are there to comfort us, or entertain and make us laugh. Their love is unconditional, they don't care how we look or smell, they still love us no matter what. Scooter sleeps on the bed and cuddles with Randy, and Harley is on the floor at our side. It's no wonder the labs make such wonderful service dogs, he never leaves my sight.  I bought Scooter 2 years ago on Christmas Eve for Randy.  He had been badly abused and didn't like men, so it took a little while to earn his trust, but soon he fit right in as a member of our family. Randy had cats before I came along, so a small lap dog was the perfect gift.  I'm going to give him a pillow to hold on his tum so Scooter won't accidently hurt him, either jumping up or off his lap. I know he'll be right at his side every step of the way helping him to get better!

Hi bluebird and DesertGal,

I really enjoyed your comments today!  I forgot to mention... my wife bought me a really nice little stuffed moose (I call Bullwinkle) to keep me company in the hospital.   He is really cool!  He came home with me and I kept him nearby during my initial three weeks of recovery. :-)

Bullwinkle really helped when I had to go back to the office, since I took him with me.  Having him at the office made me think back with fondness on all the good care and support I received just after my surgery from friends and family.
