Hi Lee & Buddy,

Well I had an undetectable PSA (less than .1) last check-up; big relief. Also had a birthday I'm now 61, and I'm doing pretty good all things considered. Sorry I haven't been posting much, but had an emergency last week; Jane's mom (almost 90 now) fell in the kitchen and broke her right hip and hand. So I called 9-11 and the EMTs got her to the hospital asap (they are absolutely amazing!). Doctor did a partial hip replacement, and she is doing well (thank the lord). Now we're trying to get her to a good re-hab facility. As soon as she is settled in, and we are less frantic I'll be able to communicate a bit more. Till then; Thanks for your concern, and I hope all is going well for both of you.

Glen,
She's lucky you were there to call 911...My father lived alone and laid on the floor for 8 hours with a stroke before we found him.  That didn't do him a bit of good and he's now living at the Idaho State Veterans Home.
Prayers and good wishes to your Mother in law.

Curt,
Best of luck with Jane's mom. Hips become such fragile body parts as we grow older. My Grandmother broke her hip Saturday due to a fall. Luckily hers was only a hair line fracture.
On a lighter note, congratulations on the undetectable PSA, and Happy birthday!

Thanks Swim, Ellen, & Kate,

It is scary to have the parents getting so old and fragile, and I was affraid this was going to happen. So I'm out today getting my dad an interview at an assisted living facility just 5 miles from us. Then over to see Jane's mom. So I hope everyone has a wonderful day today.

Kate; I hope your Grandmother recovers quickly too.

Ellen; The best to your Dad, and I wish him well.

Glen,

It certainly is scary to see them get so old and frail, but what really bothers me is that I feel like I'm the parent now and he's the child.  He wants to do things that he's not physically able to and I have to act like the parent and tell him no he can't do that.
That's very hard.
Good luck with getting your father to move into an Assisted Living facility and good wishes to your mother in law in her recovery.

Hi, Glen. Hope Jane's mom will have a quick recuperation. Are your hernia repairs coming along? Hope you're not overdoing through all this. I can't get your spaghetti sauce recipe off my mind - and haven't had time to put it on, just yet - but we talked about it again last night! Yum.

Dear Glen & Miss Jane,

Wonderful news on the PSA.... yeah!!! Happy Every-Day!  Hope the hernia recovery is going well.  Please take care of you... okay :)

I'm so sorry to hear about Miss Jane's mom... the bones are so fragile at that age.  I hope her recovery goes well.  Bless her heart!!  I'm so glad ya'll were there to get her such quick medical attention.  That's not always the way so I'm glad that worked out for all of you!

I hope your dad is receptive to the assisted living facility.... they are fantastic!!! A friend of ours and her husband have moved into one and they are thrilled to be there.  He has a lot of medical issues and this alone has been a wonderful move for them.  They have so much to offer and peace of mind for you will be a great thing.  Once he gets there ~ he will realize there is a whole new adventure waiting for the elderly.  I'm hoping our 88 year old uncle will make the move sooner than later.  Once he's there he would be so happy ~ I am quite sure but just making the move is hard.  Plus us being 3000 miles away doesn't help.

Please take care and we will keep you extra close to us in thought and prayer... Extra healing prayers are being sent to Miss Jane's mom.

Hugs from Lee & Buddy

Thanks Lee & Buddy,

At the very least my birthday on the 23rd was not a dull one. As for my repaired hernias; I feel good as new (well maybe as good as 50!) Other good news today is Jane's Mom seemed to be in good spirits, and she was accepted by the re-hab facility that was our 1st choice (God is watching out for us). She will be moved tomorrow morning. I also was able to get my Dad signed into the assisted living facility 7 minutes from my home, and he was quite happy with the prospect of moving there.

Well I kind of had to take a rain check on my Birthday dinner, but rest assured I am considering all my options with great care. I will admit BBQ'd beef brisket, French fried onion rings, home made slaw, and a stack of buttermilk bisquits is very appealing to me. (please add a walnut brownie with a scoop of Hagen Daz vanilla, hot fudge sauce, topped in whiped cream)

So in the mean time how are You and Buddy doing? Fall is here what will you two do before cold weather sets in? And I hope your uncle can get settled into a nice facility like my Dad's.

Hi Lee & Buddy,

My time during the day has been spent dealing with all the paperwork, phone calls, doctors exams, etc. for my Dad's assisted living facility, and Jane's Mom's re-hab. I had no idea there would be so much work involved just to get him moved, but he's my Dad and I would do anything to make sure he is safe and comfortable. Unfortunately I'm prown to needless worry, and can't seem to sleep like normal people. So I get up and see what all of my normal friends have been doing. One thing good about being up at 2 or 3 in the morning is it is very quiet, and that means I can get lots accomplished. I just hope I don't burn myself out.

Hopefully in a couple of weeks all of these issues will have been resolved, and life will be a little less hectic. I hope all is well with you folks, and I wish both of you have a wonderful week.

Hi Glen,

Thank you for sharing.....Yes… the paperwork and everything related in making a smooth transition….. for dad and Jane’s mom… are overwhelming I’m sure…  And making sure everything is in the proper order is a must!

Please do not run your self down….  You must be strong and in good shape to move forward with getting your dad and Miss Jane’s mom settled.  And to continue on your own road of healing/recovery…

Worry??????  Why???

Worry causes stress *&^%$#$%%^&*

Stress causes all sorts of bad stuff…

It gets you nowhere…

It drains you of strength… and

What’s going to happen is definitely going to happen whether you worry or you don’t worry….

So  ~ No More Worrying.  Okay

Now you getting up really early is okay once in a while…. I only ask that you leave me the occasional early bird “worm”  since I am a bluebird ..…  hee hee

Please take care of “You”… my friend!

In Friendship ~ Lee

Before I worried myself sick about Curtis' surgery...not that it would have done a bit of good since I'm a born worrier especially about my hubby or kids!!

Spin soon you'll have all this behind you and can go have a wonderful dinner of BBQ ribs to soothe your soul!!! LOL

Hi Lee & Buddy,

You are right of coarse, and I should know by now worry only brings more gray hair. My friend insisted that I take an Advil PM to help me sleep, and it does seem to help. I do not however believe in sleep medications because I fear they may lead to dependency. I do take comfort knowing that friends are concerned for my well being, and that is what will help me sleep the best. So thank you for your thoughtful encouragement.

I hope all is going well for you and Buddy. By the way I went out yesterday, and had BBQ'd ribs for dinner and pulled pork (with slaw & steak-cut-fries) for lunch. Jane thought it might have been a bit excessive, but I did share the ribs with her.

So tomorrow you can get up early, and I'll try to sleep in; maybe till 7:30. (without the worry)

Thanks Ellen,

In about 2 weeks (I'm guessing) Jane's mom, and my dad will be fairly stable. Then I will be less stressed.

How is Curtis? Is he walking around yet? Has he been able to eat regular food? Please tell him I hope he's feeling better, and I wish him a speedy recovery.

Curtis just called and he's finally able to get up and walk without being dizzy and has been walking all around the halway so I'm sure he'll be coming home tomorrow!!  He says he's feeling good and isn't in pain so that's good too.  I'm looking forward to getting him home where he belongs.

Hi Lee & Buddy,

Yes it is down to the last day before the big move for my Dad, and it is likely Jane's Mom will be coming home the same day. She does not qualify for a nursing home. Guess we'll be busy for a few days. Well I'd better be going to Dad's to finish up packing. I hope you ans Buddy have a wonderful week.

Thanks for thinking of us,

Hi Spinbiscuit…… *Glen  & Miss Jane,

Just wanted to touch base to see how things are going?  Hope things have settled down with your dad’s move and the rehab for Miss Jane’s mom.

Have you any special plans for November…. Thanksgiving… etc… ??

I soaked up Nag’s Head and the beauty that surrounds it.  WOW!!! What a nice trip. yeah

Also… wanted to let you know my uncle moves into an assisted living complex this weekend.  This will be such a positive move for him.  He’s been sitting in his little apartment all by himself.  There are 150 residents at his new home and lots of activities will be planned and meals provided downstairs.  He loves bingo.... A studio apartment is what he opted for in the facility.  He’s already made friends with a gentleman who knows morse code.  This has thrilled him!!

Thank you for sharing your personal journeys!  You are one of our “special” friends….

Keeping you close to our hearts...

In Friendship, Lee & Buddy

Hello Lee & Buddy,

The Family is doing much better, and especially Jane's mom who is now able to walk with the aid of a walker. This is on the eve of her 90th Birthday! As for me I'll be going for my 3rd PSA test on the 23rd; wow it's going to be 9 months since surgery! Time is flying by; the leaves have turned those beautiful fall colors, and are currantly filling my rain gutters. This year however I'll get the yard maintenance company to rake up the yard.

I think we're going to have our usual Thanks Giving dinner at home, and I can have my once a year candied yams w/marshmellows.

I'll bet your trip to Nag's Head was beautiful in the early fall season; were the skeeters still as ferocious?

Dad has adapted well to his new digs, and like your uncle has discovered the joy of playing BINGO! His favorite event however is mealtime. It's just like going out to a resturant for him, and he is able to socialize with the other residents. The most important thing is he is safe, and I don't have to worry about him falling down the stairs at his house.

I hope you and Buddy are doing well, and that you have a happy Halloween and a warm cheerful Thanks Giving feast.

Glen & Miss Jane,

This posting got by me and I started worrying about you and when I went back to page 5 ~ I found where you responded immediately…to my last posting on the 30th…..  Man oh man…. This is the 3rd posting that’s gotten by me…..  I guess I better slow down… this retirement has me busier than when I worked full time LOL… tongue

Your posting dated above 10-30….says you’re having your 3rd PSA on the 23rd  ??  This month?? Thanksgiving day??

I’m glad to hear Miss Jane’s mom is doing well…..

Time truly is flying… the fall colors were absolutely gorgeous for about 3 weeks and now they are gone…. And cooler temps are setting in.  I’m glad you have the maintenance crew doing your yard work.  Smart move!!

I'm so excited for you dad and my uncle!!!  I spoke to my uncle the other night and he says he loves not having to cook for himself!!  He’s very happy and in turn makes me feel so much better knowing there’s other folks around him.  You hit it right on ~ knowing he’s safe and taken care of.

Thanksgiving just around the corner….. and all the trimmings.   This is our favorite holiday!!  And believe me this year we are truly blessed and have so much to be Thankful for…

Our trip to Nag’s Head was wonderful… No skeeters J

Please take care and know I think of you often and I keep you close in thoughts and prayers.

Sending “extra” hugs to you both!!!   Lee &  Buddy :-)

Hi Lee & Buddy,

I'm sorry for not being able to post much this last week or so, but Jane's Mom passed away late Thursday night following a massive stroke she had suffered the previous Sunday morning. The doctor assured us there was nothing we could have done to prevent the final outcome. He also said she would not have suffered any pain or have had any sense of what happened.

So now we are trying to make all the funeral arrangements, and take care of her personal affairs. This is quite a difficult time for Jane as we had just celebrated her Mom's 90th birthday two weeks ago. If we can just make it through the next couple of weeks I think we'll be ok.

I hope you and Buddy have a Happy Thanks Giving, and thank you both for thinking of us.

God bless you,

Glen & Jane
