Done with surgery (5 days post) and recovering at the parents home in NJ. Made it to the library to do mail and connect with the gang. Thing were about as I expected except for the post-op swelling. I hardly recognized anything! I'm pretty smooth with the catheter manuvers bit there were some amusing/anxious moments getting here. Stopped the pain medicine two days ago. I'm getting around much better than I thought I would, trying to get motivated to do more than sleep and solve sudoku. I guess the next big step is the post-op visit on the 24th. I'm hoping there are no complications and I can say goodby to Mr. Foley. I'm thankful for everyones support and hoping to be helpful and inspiring to some future folks.

There you are! Glad to see you out and about. Husb. experienced some awful swelling, too. Painful and really black and blue in the testicles. Ouch. And, yes, the catheter can create its own amusement and trials. Congrats for being done with surgery!

Yeah Birdland! I was wondering how you were doing but knew that you were at your parents' home. I'm so glad you are doing well. Jeff didn't have much swelling but he never liked the catheter. the 24th will be here before you know it. take care and rest now when you can. when will you ever have this excuse again? :)

Hey Birdland, Shepla here What hospital what Surgeon? I am going back to Sloan Kettering on the 23rd to get cathater taken out. Surgery was 3pm Thurs. and I went home sat about 1pm a little shakey but it was the right choice. Feelin Pretty Good considering 1st BM monday Yes! Shepla

Hi Birdland,

Home is the best place to recover. I've seen enough hospital rooms to last 2 lifetimes maybe more. So get youself well because ya gotta be in shape for Thanks Giving, and all that football. Good luck, and speedy recovery.

Hi Birdland,   Yeah!!!!!!!!!   You are home and already out and about !!!   Thank you so much for making the extra effort to let us all know that you are home and recovery/healing is going so well.   Sounds like you and Mr. Foley aka Mr. Hang…. are hanging in there on your outings…together!!   Your “kids” at school will be so happy to hear from you!!   And your new apartment is waiting with open arms to greet you home.   What a smart man…   Light really is good for the mind and body.   Just a remember…. The light is always there for you…. Even when the clouds move in… they eventually dissipate and that beautiful sunshine engulfs us. *   Sudoku…. Can we say addicting!!   I enjoy it also.   I wonder if it’s a “school” thing.   Buddy retired from middle school (science teacher, guidance counselor, computer teacher) and I retired from elementary school (secretary).   A teacher has her students work on them and she made me a little packet and of course!!!   I’m hooked.   Not a fanatic but once I start it’s kinda hard to put it down.   Continue being pampered by family and know that we are here once you get home too!!   And yes… all “3” of our guys are safely home and your postings of “your” recovery will help future newbies…   Keeping you close in thoughts and prayers. Good news man! Glad to here it! Looks like we all are getting around and along with the Foley. A friend emailed and said it must be painful and embarrassing. I told her it only was "painful having to really pee for 12+ hours and then it subsided. I also told her that nobody said a thing about me and my bathrobe and bag at happy hour at the Valley River Inn. A few people wanted to know what I had in the bag. Being fall harvest season and all, I just said it was hard apple cider. It does get a bit cumbersome when you are trying to dance. Anyway Bird I am thrilled to hear you are A-OK. I'm praying our post results will be just as positive.  Talk to you later.

Russo at Slaon Kettering in NY. My first BM took a while too! There's a great comedy piece waiting to be written about these pain in the ass
Floeys, but guess only a selceted audience would reall appreciate it...or maybe not!

Hey Birdland, We must have been there the same time. Great Place really know their stuff.You are right about the comedy. I was standing naked next to a nice lady helping me shower! She was as big as me and I said as I pointed to my thing is this clean enough? She said you,re doing just fine honey!!

Hi Birdland, shepla, & 56 pontiac,

It's great to hear you guys laugh about your (my) post-op discomforts because a sense of humor puts you all on the fast track to recovery. So keep up the good work cause Thanks Giving is not far off, and you've got to be in shape for Turkey Day.

hey guys, as Jeff said, if we weren't laughing, we'd be crying. yes, having a sense of humor speeds up the healing process, and that's a scientific fact! glad to hear you're doing well. bring on the stories because we've all been there....and will laugh along with you. thanks for staying in touch. kat

Birdland, Shepla and all,

Humor is a great healer...... 3 funny experiences of mine in last month of my PC journey

When I was rolled down to surgery they took my vitals and the anesthesiologist said wow your blood pressure is only 111 over 72, pulse 45 aren't you scared..... I said NO why... "should I be?". There was laughter and then dead silence. Then I woke up in recovery.

My 70 year old sister (14 yrs. my senior) came from Ga. to care for me so my wife and daughter could work when I came home from hospital, when we called our mother (91 yrs old) that lives with her in Ga. (my brother in law was mother-in-law sitting) that I was ok and home she said oh that's great...... but you aren't bringing him here are you...... you know cancer is contagious and I don't want to catch it.

There is no such thing as modesty with PC. When the female nurse removed my cathreter I was scared to death, really wanted it out, and "male excitement" and modesty were the last 2 things on my mind trust me.

Well maybe it was funnier to me.

Birdland,

Great to hear things are going well. Just remember, even if you feel good to keep taking at least tylenol. This will help with the internal swelling which you may not be aware of and continue your fast progress of healing. Isn't it nice to be on the other side of surgery? Best wishes to all.

Gang,

I have to be alone the days after I get home from my Laparoscopic surgery.  I had read that some of our friends were in the same boat.  Any problem pulling this off?
