One week post surgery!
It's hard to believe one week ago from right now I was being wheeled into surgery. While the time has passed quickly, I'm still looking forward to my appointment Tuesday, when I can get rid of this catheder and start the next phase of recovery. One thing I did to pass the time was to borrow my son's copy of "24" fourth season. I've only watched about 3 episodes a day, but with getting up and moving around between each one, It's helped pass some time. With our good weather, I'm talking to my outside plants/lawn to not grow until I'm back to speed.
Something I had to get help with - they gave me these Cath-Secure strips to hold the tubing on my thigh. Well, they only gave me 2 spares, and with showers, they don't last more than two days. With the nearest medical supply 30 miles away, I was fortunate to have a sister-in-law living close by who wanted to visit anyway. I've heard some use a velcro strap, but these strips work well for me. Something to consider - know where your nearest medical supply is and how to get things if you need.
I'm extending my outside walking - heading to the post office to mail some bills this morning. I'm amazed that with all the moving around of my inners, that there is not more pain. Sneezes aren't fun, however, and regaining normal bowel function is an unpleasant adventure. I also wasn't aware of all the gas they pump into you to do the surgery. My belly felt like a ripe watermelon for awhile, but it's dissapating.
Again, for one week post, I'm feeling good and continuing to extend myself, within limits. For those getting ready, some of my fears were greater than reality. It's major surgery, no doubt about it, but your amazing body will get better every day. I was really intimidated about having a catheder, and while it's annoying, I have adjusted to it, realizing it's only temporary.
Hang in there....
