Hi Folks,

Wow, what a difference a little testosterone makes!!!! I feel 100% better after having a T shot yesterday afternoon. I am still weak and the hot flashes still happen but the darkness is gone and my enthusiasm for life is back.

So my experience, with my doc anyway, is that he has no concept of how devastated and desparate low T can make a guy feel. He would not even consider therapy until I finally got him to read my T level report then he conceded that shots would be okay.

Had I known this stuff would happen going in, I would have insisted that my T level be monitored during recovery. Doctors have to get up to speed on this subject so be sure to look into it before you do surgery.

I have not seen any reports on just how low it can go before the bad stuff happens. Probably varies from one guy to the next. If anyone has more info, I would really appreciate a heads up on it.

Thanks everbody and see ya later...

Dear Jim

I can't tell you how happy I am to hear your good news and that you are on your way back to feeling human again! You are such a great guy and have been so helpful to others here. I think that your story is very valuable to other men who may face a similar situation of extremely low testosterone. When you have PC it is a tough balancing act--as you well know PC feeds on testosterone. Hopefully you are free of cancer after your surgery and the increase in testosterone will not hurt you and only make you a happy guy again. God Bless!

Hey Paul,Tony, Dave, Bluebird and all you other great people here on HW,

It is really nice to be back in the land of the living.

I can't tell you how much you guys helped me through the darkness. Reaching out to you was almost impossible at times but the effort always paid off. I don't know what would have happened without you.

I will love you forever...

YIP EE!!!! Jim what a great way to start my day! Sorry I haven't been in, in a couple days and when I opened your post I read that you finally got some majic juice! Thats great bud! I'm sure you'll be back to your old self in notime! and a goose egg too. Now we have a great reason to cellabrate! I'm so happy for you!
DJ, what kind of T theropy are you using? I've been using Testim gell every morning and I started feeling better after a couple days but it really kicked in after a couple weeks and after a month the difference was like night and day. I am a little younger than you and I don't know if that makes a difference but I'm sure which ever treatment they are giving you, you should start feeling better soon. I've got a prayer w/ your name on it!
Hang in there DJ and Jim, I'm so happy for you I'm doing a little dance at 6:30AM!
God bless all of my friends!
Your friend,
Pete

Hey Pete,

Thanks for the support buddy. I don't know how you put up with that s___ for 3 years!!! I didn't last 2 months and one thing is for sure - I'm NEVER going back there no matter what happens. We are making a decision about what to do in the future as far as a doctor is concerned. Will probably just use my family doc to monitor T level and PSA then go back to a urologist if the PSA goes up. My uro is a great surgeon but has no concept of what low T does to a guy. Anyway, with your help and Swim and the rest of the folks here, I made it out of the darkness. Thank you from the bottom of my heart....

Hey Bill,

Thanks for the encouragement you gave me in the chat room while I was going through this stuff. Talking to you and the others in there got me through it. Man, what would we ever do without each other??????

See ya...

Way to go, Jim!

Congratulations on your lift! I am so glad for you. Still waiting to get that feeling. I want some of that injection stuff. I gonna ask about that when I go in again.

Pete, I am using Androgel 1% 5 mg, one packet each morning, and have for one and a half weeks. No change of any level noticed yet. I had two months worth left from before my diagnosis, and they were only one month over expiration date, so my pharmacist told me they'd still be good for another two-three months. Didn't want to waste the medicine or the money, so I'm trying to use it up and then get fresh. My doc prescribed Testim for me because he liked the absorption of it better than Androgel, but he said I could use up the A-gel first.

I tried the Testim samples he gave me for 2 days, but it has an odor of musk cologne (that can't be the odor of testosterone, because A-gel doesn't have it). Didn't like musk cologne in my college days, and it is still hard for me to take, though I will, if it makes you feel that good -it didn't in two days for me. Kinda weird they would put cologne in medicine, especially a cologne that not everyone would like, but whatever.

Hey DJ,

Thanks for the update. I was on 200 ml depo-testosterone every two weeks before surgery. Had been for a number of years. I had a shot last Wednesday pm and by 6:00 Thursday morning, the darkness was gone. I still have hot flashes and am pretty shaky but nothing like the last two months. I am going to take another 200 ml shot next Wednesday. That should get my T level up to where its livable again. I see my family doc on 4/16 and he is going to monitor my T level and PSA. My uro told me to keep the T around 200. Actually he said, "I'll LET you get up to 200".

Anyway, please keep us posted on your progress with the gel. I have never used it and am interested in your experience.

Thanks and see ya later...

J Dear Biker Jim and Miss MaryLu, This is amazing how quickly the shot worked.   I’m still puzzled about this T stuff and plan to read up about it so I understand it more clearly.     I always felt the Chat Room was going to be “another POWERFUL tool” for our guys and gals to share….   Several times… I would go to sign on to the Chat Room and I would see Jim *Biker90, Bill *Jetguy, and Vicki *Our Swimom chatting.   I would not sign on because I knew you were sharing and getting excellent information from Swimom.   I also knew how important this time was for you!!!!!!   God Bless her for her Knowledge….and sharing of this knowledge… and all the others who have had Helping Hands there for you during the darkness.     You are so special to all of us Biker… and Miss MaryLu is a sweetheart!!!!   I love her posting! Take care dear friends and know we keep you extra close in thoughts and prayers.   In Friendship ~ Lee & Buddy

Thanks Lee,

You guys are really special to MaryLu and me too.

I wish you would come in the chat room when we are there. Everyone likes to talk to you and we usually don't have anything going on that can't be interrupted. If anyone says anything important, they have to come over here and post it....

I am slowly building up my T level. One shot a week till it comes up off the floor. I was so low that the first shot really made a difference. It will take a couple of months for everything to level out. I was comfortable pre-surgery and the doc just didn't understand the problems that not having therapy could cause. I think we have it straightened out now. While testosterone is not good for PCa, a guy has to have a certain level in order to function. I was way below that level at 48. That is lower than guys on hormone therapy ever get.

Anyway, thanks for thinking of us as we do think of you every day...

Jim,

Such good news to "see" you feeling so much better...we all need to hear that, Thanks!

Here's a couple of sites (there are many) re. low T and the in's and out's of it:

http://www.menshealthnetwork.org/timeout/lowtestosterone.htm

http://www.hormone.org/pdf/patients_guide_low_testosterone.pdf

FYI: Don's Oncologist said to us to try to stick to sites that are ".org" sites as he feels that the info is solid and no one is trying to sell you anything. Some of the others he thought were perhaps misleading or not as sound.

Hi folks,

I updated my journey with today's meeting with our family doc. The short version is that he referred me to another urologist for a second opinion on T therapy. We will see what happens...

Partial Quote from 1 st Posting on this thread:   Updated 4-16-2007 4-16-2007 Continence:             100% Potency: I am getting some response since my T level is up a little bit.   Its about 50%.   That’s where I was before the T level took me down. Testosterone:             We saw our family doctor today and told him what had happened with the urologist and my argument with him about T therapy.   (He had heard about it already…)   He was sympathetic but gave us a number of reasons why he could not go against what the specialist had ordered - none of which had anything to do with cancer or testosterone therapy.             He referred us to another urologist for a second opinion.   That appointment is on 5/9 so we will see what his take is on T therapy.   In the mean time I am taking 200 ml every three weeks at home.   This is what my urologist prescribed   except that he wanted me to have the shots in his office.   If the second opinion comes back the same as the first i.e. no testosterone therapy to any level that is livable, I will go back to my urologist and start over trying to convince him that he needs to consider quality as well as quantity of life.   Hey Jim *Our Biker90,   WOW!!!   100% this is wonderful news…. He’s a good little “Sphincter”   J   Moving forward again in the Potency arena…. This is looking “up” as some would say!! hee hee…   I’m still trying to understand the T therapy.   If you don’t take it ~ depression sets in.   We know exactly what this entails…. If you take it ~ any “bad cells” may feed on it.   Buddy and I have talked about quality ~vs~ quantity...   We are keeping you and MaryLu tucked extra close to our hearts….   You’re always in our thoughts and prayers. In Friendship ~ Lee & Buddy
