Ok,

I remembered to ask our surgeon at our pre-surgery consult how long they will do the first PSA test post-op and he said one month, but It didn't occur to ask ... do they do an "ultrasensitive PSA" test or just the general one?

I am kind of confused about what the difference is, but have seen people on here who get .1 post surgery and others who get things like a .04 or whatever.  What is a "good" PSA one month post-op?

Did your doc do the ultrasensitive on your first post-op PSA or a regular.  When do they do the ultrasensitive?  do you request it?  is it dictated by insurance, etc?

Thanks for any answers.

Protocols dictate modalities and insurances accept practiced methods once they have been proven affective...cost effective that is!

Tanya,

If you are still using Dr's Ruyle/Montoya, they do not use the ultra-sensitive PSA test. I asked about that in January and was told that there is no clinical advantage to the ultra-sensituve test, so they do not prescribe it.

Thanks for asking.

It will be a year tomorrow that I had my biopsy and a year the next day that I was diagnosed. I am doing well....continuing to heal both emotionally and physically.

Good luck on 4/10. I know you guys will be happy to be on the other side of this journey.

Michael
