Surgery vs. radiation with relatively low gleason but sky high PSA with no apparent extra capular involvement?

My pre-op PSA was 19.7, It dropped to as low as 13.7 and I was hopeful at surgery. But not to be too much so after. T3b N0 Mx, four margins positive. My god news came later as I progressively went to undetectable.

An overview of Don's case.

PSA pre-LRP surgery 2/09/06 was 7.96

First PSA post surgery - 11.6, 12.9, 13.9 (all between 4/15 to 4/26) Tests done to confirm cancer NOT in prostate bed. Microscopic cancer cells were somewhere but not showing up in any tests at this point. I cannot tell you how much this sucked. We thought "get it out and he'll be good to go". Not to happen. I cannot tell you how overwhelming this all was.

PSA 6/06/06 - 13.76

PSA 8/23/06 - 18.85 Multiple distant lymph nodes involved (out of pelvic region)

Started Lupron 9/06/06

12/06/06 - PSA .8

3/06/07 - PSA .3

It needs to go lower.

Susan

My husband was diagnosed in December 2006.  PSA of 30 and Gleeson 3 + 4.  Luckily had not spread to the bones.  Prescribed Cosudex 50 mg and Zoladex 10.8mg implant.  4 April 2007 PSA down to 0.65. Suffering all hormone treatment side effects - depression, hot flushes, lethargy and weight gain - but the results are wonderful!  Starts 8 weeks of radiotheraphy in May.  Fingers crossed.
