Hi, I have recently been diagnosed with prostate cancer.  I am 65 & it is 4.6 PSA, T1C - Gleason 6.

Obviously, like everyone else I am having a difficult time with all the various treatment options.  My local urologist/oncologist suggests a radical prostatectomy using the robotic procedure.  I am concerned about the potential serious side effects so I have been looking at other treatment options.

I have noted with great interest the RCOG (Radiotherapy Clinics of Georgia) web site ( www.rcog.com )

This is a great site with tons of very specific information about their procedure.  I am very interested in hearing from other men who have had treatment at RCOG.  Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks ... Jay

Hi Jay

it would be helpful to us in order to give you some advice to indicate your PC statistics (see example in my footnote below). at your age and depending on your stage of PC, you should educate yourself about proton radiation therapy--see my thread entitled "Proton Radiation Therapy--My Journey With Prostate Cancer". Good luck in your decision.

Dave
68, Biopsy 9/27/06, Stage T1c, PSA 7.1, Gleason 6 [less than 5% in two areas], Gleason 7 (3+4) [less than 20% in third area], negative DRE, bone scan and MRI. Starting proton radiation therapy 2/22/07.

Hi Jay,

It will truly benefit you to click on the Helpful Hints Link in my last posting.  There are options and it’s nice to be able to read about them and there’s even a thread… with members sharing why they chose a specific treatment/surgery.

We are happy you’ve found all of us!  Thank you for reaching out and we look forward to walking with you.  This journey is best traveled with friends.
