I contracted MRSA during my radiation treatment while my immune system wa comprimised. Wonder if anyone else has suffered with this bacteria? Nasty stuff. Important to keep you immune system strong during any treatment as this bacteria is right there waiting.
Diagnosed with a Gleason 4X3. 1 out of 7 samples, Left Side. DRE showed Normal. Psa gradually crept to 10. Dropped to 6.4 with Alt. suppliments.

Hi ~ Ken,

We just looked it up and got a good idea of exactly what this nasty critter is all about

Thank you for sharing this important information.  Anything we can do to help control the contact of any staph infection is welcome… This is truly a Helpful Reminder that we sometimes don’t key into as closely as we should.  Like did the nurse/doctor/”you”/”me”… wash our hands when coming in to check on the patient….. so many things to monitor… but worth the extra caution for sure.

We are concerned as to how you are doing ~ having battled this infection… Please let us know.  Giving us a little idea as to the start of it may help others become more aware of what to watch out for…

How are things in the recover phase of your treatment?  It was nice when you posted your Threads… and shared important information on other member’s threads also.

Thanks again for sharing…. We really appreciate your input!!

Ken,

Oh, you may have a lowered resistance but MRSA is spread by not properly washing hands and cleaning equipment more than anything else. Don't let staff fool ya.....MRSA can be prevented!
The staff needs to be more responsible IMHO.

Ken, MRSA can be contact, but it can also be airborne. 2 different kinds. I know that when I treat a patient with MRSA that is airborne, I am required to fully gown, mask and glasses and all. It is very common for patients in hospitals to get MRSA. It is also something that most people have had at one time or another without knowing or thinking they had the flu. It is very dangerous for pregnant women to be in contact with people who have MRSA. Hope you get rid of this fast, but it is very common in hospital settings. Courtney

It took more than a year to get properly diagnosed. My GP was no help. Suggested a dermatologist. A doc in an urgent care facility, while I was on vacation, looked at my nasty boils and said" Looks like a Staph infection" He cultured it and gave me Trimethoprim-Sulfa and Doxycycline. It was MRSA. They didn't work as I have sores in my nose now. This was the second time in 15 months that I had a breakout. First was about 10 boils on my thighs and buttocks area. They took months to heal up without meds as I didn't know what it was. In January I got 3 boils on arm and hand. I was going to the gym and the Hospital for a 10 week period. Bet I got in the gym where hundreds of people were everyday and no one was using medicated pads to wipe the equipment after use. They do that at my little gym at home and now I know why.

With me the boils start with a tiny hair follicle that has a pus looking center. Doesn't look like much at first. Seems to start where your skin gets rubbed like under my watch and my finger that gets rubbed good when trying to get your hand in a tight jean pocket.
