Hi Everyone,

I was wondering what health regime you are following post surgery?  Are you taking any vitamins, eating certain foods, etc.

Is saw palmetto something you should take after surgery to prevent PC from reoccurring?

Also, is anyone here involved with a PC organization?  Does anyone know what PC organizations are looking for volunteers; I would be interested in getting involved and helping out.

All the best,

AEG

AEG, below is part of a post I wrote recently on my diet and supplement routine. I started this about 6 weeks before surgery and have continued after. I used to take saw palmeto for mild prostati***, it supposedly helps improve urnine volume but I have never heard of it as a cancer preventitve. I have read some articles on Pomogranite juice as beneficial to suppressing prostate cancer and I drink a small cup every day.

Good Luck,
Joe

Diet
I have been on what I call an anti-inflamitory diet too since nerve inflamation is a big part of what we are trying to overcome. I've cut way back on red meat, the bad oils and processed food in general. I eat lots of food with omega 3's like salmon, walnuts, ground flax seed (for cerial), eggs and shrimp. I also eat pasta with lots of olive oil and garlic and I eat allot of fruit and veggies.

Supplements
600mg of Alpha Lipoic Acid every day. I read a study some time ago where they used this supplement on Diabetics with nerve damage and it helped to restore their nerve function. 50mg of CQ10 which is supposed to be good for the heart and circulatory system. I also take 50mg of selenium every day but only because it happened to be in my medicine cabinet and I figured what the hell. Daily multi vitamin too.

Most suggest a heart healthy Med diet which is not overly extreme, and as suggested a reduction in red meat. Arachidonic acid is present in red meat and dairy fat. Cooking method is often discussed:  burning of any meat and oils is regarded as being negative, so cook any meat, chicken or fish more gently, steam it,  or use in curry or stew.

Often suggested supplements are: Lycopene (cooked tomatoe), Selenium, Vitamin E gamma and delta, Vitamin D3 (sun), fish oil (salmon etc)
