I just wanted to advise all men that are thinking of possibly having children in the future to please freeze as many samples of your sperm as possible.  This can easily be done at a local sperm bank or at most infertility clinics.

Also, you can look into sperm aspiration as a last resort.  I was told that sperm can be retrieved with a needle even if you don't have a prostate.

When you're ready to have kids, try to do IVF for best chances of success (instead of insemination which requires a lot more sperm – this could potentially waste valuable frozen sperm).  I'm very knowledgeable in the fertility subject area and post any questions that you have about the matter.

Best of luck to you.

This was a tough decision for me and Ruth. We were at the tail end of deciding what to do. I have a step son and Ruth and I lost a baby 10 years ago. We wanted to so bad have another, but then PCa came around. For reasons of our own, we decided that we did not want to persue this after cryogenics, artificial incemination, or any other means that we felt were not natural. But we did look into this and struggled heavily. And like you said, our surgeon told us we could still decide to do this after surgery by extraction. We let that give us solace and proceded with the surgery without going to the sperm storage facility. Then came the Stage III news. Hormone Therapy! What affect does it have on sperm production? We still aren't sure. We grieve every January 9 for our lost baby. (also the day my step father died of lung cancer same year). I do recommend that couples still considering the possibility of having children, don't put it off and don't hesitate to go with the cryogenics. Other options may or may not exist after all is said and done, and you can get this done before surgery and decide later what you ultimately want to do.
