Constantly going through this terrible itch and burning sensation
especially when I'm sitting.. I was wondering if I could use witch hazel.  For some relief a few times a day.
Still on pins and needles waiting.... Richard

Quote from… different thread which we responded to.

My butt feels very sore ever since I had the biopsy, and also a burning and itching feeling especially after a bowl movement..... I was wondering if it would be okay for me to use witch hazel a few times a day. Hopefully take away that itch and irritation
still waiting on pins and needles -- Richard

Hi Richard,

Prostate biopsy is an invasive procedure -- a minor one, but invasive all the same, and there is a minor risk of complications.  These include: Pain, Infection, Bleeding, and in rare occasions Impotency.

Just a thought!!!  You may have hemorrhoids.  The bowel movements and the biopsy procedure can cause irritation.  We would use Witch Hazel… but monitor it closely.  Don’t let it go on too long.

If it is hemorrhoids… you may need suppositories (Prep H  or more powerful by prescription) and / or Prep H cooling gel to help relieve the burning/itching.  I will state to be careful when inserting suppositiories...since you’ve recently had your biopsy…  That area is still healing (up to 6 weeks) and you don’t want to disturb it!!  Don’t hesitate to check with your doctor and the pharmacist!!

Keeping you close as you wait!!! For answers.

I remember slight itching and burning senastion after my biopsy. This should go
away. Don't apply witch hazel or anything
else without asking doc. If you're pissing a
little (small amount) blood this is normal too. If symptoms persist, call doc.
Good luck with biopsy results on 3rd.
Keep everyone posted.

Best whshes and results,

Get some fiber supplements such as psyllium (Metamucil, Konsyl, others) or methylcellulose (Citrucel) so you don't need to push giving the area a rest. Konsyl makes it slide right out for me, metamucil gives me intestinal cramps/gas..
