Your cancer was found only in 1/2 of your prostate. Perhaps only one of the two lobes was involved. You got there early, Mal. The significance is a much improved prognosis. If fact, your numbers indicate that a complete remission is likely and you shoud take precaution and get those semi-annual PSA tests. Your Gleason is a bit on the higher side but not like my 4+3=7. My stage is pT3b. Whick means I was found to have locally metastatic disease and the predominant grade is 4 or aggressive cancer.

Your best news is that you do not likely have positive margins and that means that cancer likely did not leave the prostate.

Tony

Hi Mal,

Tony summed up your cancer stage (T2a) and grade (3 +4 = 7) perfectly. Your cancer is confined and very cureable. Good luck on July 30th. Please keep us posted.

All Good Thoughts,

Hello Mal,

The very best of luck to you on the 30th. Now is a good time to start practicing the Kegel exercises, walking, and generally getting in top shape. The stronger you are going in the quicker you will recover.

Hey MAl, My condition was very similar to yours and I am 3 months post op Radical Prostatectomy Retropubic. Just had my first PSA after surgery and had a score of 0. Its a scary thing to go through, no doubt. But there are lots of good men and women on this site that can give you lots of comfort and advice. Spinbiscuit is right, get yourself ready for this. You may or may NOT have incontinence issues. Everyones a little different. To be honest, the worst thing for me during the recovery was the catheter. It wasn't painful, just uncomfortable, but the good news is you can sleep through the night without having to get up to go to the bathroom. It sounds like you have a good prognosis, as I did. One thing I've learned about this sight, is that no question is too weird, strange , or embarrassing to ask. Whatever you experience, someone else here has had a similar experience and is ready to share. I wished I'd discovered this sight before my surgery. Once I found it, these people have helped me deal with some issues and I didn't feel alone in this.
Good luck to you and keep talking about it. Be informed.

T2a is a clinical stage right now. It means that there is a positive finding on one side of the prostate. I assume there was a positive DRE, a palpable lump?

Pathological staging is done after the whole prostate is out and examined.

Good Luck on the 30th
